I'm a real motorcyclist so naturally I'm rather interested in finally having a cycle in a game (GTA- Vice City) one can drive with traffic in. But I wonder how well its done. What happens if you hit a biker with a car? Do they crash and fall off the bike or just kind of lamely both get pushed aside? Same goes for me on a bike in the game. While riding the motorcycle, what if I hit a car at high speed? Low speed? Will I fall off the bike in both cases? Neither? Do I have to land jumps properly so as not to crash? Can ped 'clothes line' me when I'm on the cycle? Side note, are there bicycles to steal in the game? I guess I'm wondering how 'sim-ish' and how much 'arcadish' the motorcycle aspect of this game is. Anyone have a clue to these questions? thanks
VC doesn't come out until Tuesday, according to my PS2-addicted brother...though I'm positive there's bicycles to steal in the game, come on. It is GRAND THEFT AUTO: Vice City. ;) Hehe. If they model it like they've done with cars in GTA3, it'll be exaggerated but believable in the same sense that a movie like Die Hard is exaggerated but believeable. But I do doubt they'll have the peds clotheslining you off of a bike. That would be a very cool surprise, though. Milhouse "Destroy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

One of the additions - both with bike and car - is the ability to get off the bike at any time. And in an article in OPM - a rather lengthy one :> they mentioned that one of the first things they did was dropkick a guy when they found out he was trying to steal their motorcycle. And in Gamespot, I've read when you get in a high-speed accident, you go in a different direction than your bike, most likely. Again, ask me Tuesday afternoon - then again, I'll only be on here for brief ramblings of joy. :P "Destroy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

There's two that I know of. One is a 4-stroke sounding harley-style bike used by a biker gang, and the other looks like ya typical high performance Jap or Duc of maybe 900cc or so - more a sports bike instead of a big tourer. The movies from the official Vice City website clearly shows cycle theft, riding and even some stunts. From the movies and R* interviews, it looks entirely possible that the cycles will support monos and nose stands, and even flipping if you launch or stop too hard. There's also a moped if you class that as a bike :-> Look around http://www.vicecity.com which is a Flash site. On the wall is a red box with the keys of impounded vehicles. When you click on the keys you get given a folder (it kinda plays like a game in the flash) and you'll see photos and also movies of many of the vehicles. You'd probably learn a lot from watching them. It's my guess that the movies are all collected using "Cinematic Mode" for the in-game cameras, plus careful editing of course. GTA3 was reasonably realistic in terms of the driving physics - ie you could detect noticable driving differences between different vehicles which corresponded to the expected behaviour of similar real cars. In fact, there was definite characteristics of front-wheel, rear wheel and even mid-engined cars for their handling. However the crash response was arcadish. Cars can be destroyed in stages but I tell ya, you wouldn't expect this level of survival to happen in real life. As an aside, I really like the driving sim of GT3 but IMHO the complete lack of vehicle damage apart from abstract tyre damage is a major weakness in that otherwise fantastic driving sim. I have read a R* interview where they say the damage from cycle crashes will be quite harsh and dependent on the speed. I'd expect the cycles to be relatively realistic for handling etc but also expect reasonable arcade-ness because after all this is a fantasy game and the goal is not ultimately to drive vehicles with 100% realism. > Can ped 'clothes line' me when I'm on the cycle? > Interesting question - it'll be one of the first things I'll be trying :-) I'm also looking fwd to using the Samuri sword from a cycle.

The guy dies and you get arrested for vehicular homicide and are thrown in jail, to be released in ten years, when you will be able to play GTA 19 or a PS12. > Same goes for me on a bike in the game. While riding the motorcycle, > what if I hit a car at high speed? Low speed? Will I fall off the bike > in both cases? Neither? You do fall off; and if you're near San Fransico Bay you'll fly into a lot of water. If you're near McCovey's cove, you will be allowed to search for one of Barry Bonds' home-run balls. If you're near Lake Erie, you'll get contaminated; and if near the Cuyahoga River, you'll catch fire. Sometimes you might fly into a neighbor's pool (I think this is if you're in Miami). But the pool has been drained and instead of making a splash landing, you crack your head and blead to death. > Do I have to land jumps properly so as not to crash? > > Can ped 'clothes line' me when I'm on the cycle? Ped? That's a brand of dog food, or couldn't you spell the word? The only "clothes line" you'll see is in New Orleans, where a woman is hanging laundry and completely naked. If you land near her, she'll ask if you want your pecker dried. > Side note, are there bicycles to steal in the game? >Damn if I know. > I guess I'm wondering how 'sim-ish' and how much 'arcadish' the > motorcycle aspect of this game is. Yeah - I like it how it is - mind you, if it was realistic, in terms of damage to the car <assuming you're still immune to damage in the car, another story entirely> the car wouldn't actually explode, most of the time, just... er... no brakes, no tires, somethin' :P "Tommy Vercetti" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3db4a67c$[email hidden]...

Not sure about stealing a bike or the peds clotheslining you, but if you hit, or get hit by car, you'll fly off and you and the motorcycle will both take damage. When you jump, yes you get to control the angle at which you land, ie: on front tire, on back tire. You can even stand up on the motorcycles =) Hope that helps. later, travis "Destroy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Motorcycles or bicycles? There IS a difference... Milhouse wrote:

With regard to the motorbikes, I read an article yesterday in a mag which says when you come off the bike you get thrown off and suffer bad damage. They have tried to make it realistic, but obviously if someone hits a lorry at 90mph in reality they are likely to suffer worse than bad injury. There are bikes to steal in the game and there are 4 different types, including a moped. You can do wheelies. Beck

Who knows, but I reread mine and realized my brain probably wasn't quite in gear all the way. :P I was still thinking "motorcycles"...I don't know if there will be bicycles to steal or not, but I think someone else mentioned a moped, so it's not too far removed... Hence the confusion as to why the author talks about motorcycles the whole time and then throws this in. Quite odd... > And why do you change the headers all the time ? Because it's more relevant.

hiyas if you crash abiker with a car you go overtop of them and they die... go back and grab the cash. if you hit stuff at a low speed you dont fall off you just kind of bop around a bit dont know about jumpin the bikes, have yet to take any of them off the mark, however your body fly's off quite nicely. theres numerous bikes to be stolen... bout six i think, all ranging from appropriately named faggio's to somethin that looks like a harley. dont know about bicycles either but theres a pizza delivery scooter. i dont ride a motorcycle but have played lots of games... the different bikes all handle differently, and are good when being chased by the cops. have a nice day.
