Maybe GP5. F1 2002 is a bit lame and GP4 is even lamer in virtually every department.
I just own F12002. "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:_n0v9.181783$[email hidden]...

Well, if you had listened to all the people around here praise crammond right before GP3 came out then you would have to deduce that anything he put out was golden. When GP3 came out everyone still seemed to think he was a god (even when they were told the game was rubbish). Now GP4. I think everyone has finally gotten the picture that Crammond is actually not a very good programmer and has milked the same old lame game engine long enouph. The weather effects are good but that is the ONLY thing good about it. Vintook "Pking" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:lS%u9.38672$[email hidden]... > Saw it today at CompUSA > >

When GP3 came out everyone still seemed to think he was a > god W-w-what? Everybody in this NG, just looking at the pictures and all the PR behind the release of GP3 knew that it would only be a mere evolution, not a revolution of Crammond's game engine. We already knew it was still slowing real-time instead of dropping frames (there were screenshots with the Processor Occupancy). You could still see all the usual flat and extra-grainy textures in those early pics (they were in Australia). Everybody could "feel" that it was going to be bad ;) Really, check out google! > I think everyone has finally gotten the picture that Crammond is actuallynot a very > good programmer and has milked the same old lame game engine long enouph. That's a tough one. I think it's the most accurate driving simulator available. But I'm likely the only one, in this room anyway. I find F12002 majority disappointing by comparison. It's been my experience that once I "got" the way the drive is realized, the tire presentation is the most complete in an sim I've played. (All the majors are on my machine right now.) (Also, it only took me a few hours to "sink in" to the sims style.) The perspective is among the best in that eye strain is at a minimum when looking properly up the track, and the track are stunning. Almost as good as SBK2K. If you can return it, pick it up and spend as much time as they allow with it. PS Force feedback is strictly out with this title. (Or any title from now until the next evolution desktop mechanical devices.) -- "Nothing gets closer!" - Crammond mark "Pking" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:lS%u9.38672$[email hidden]... > Saw it today at CompUSA > >

IMO you're very unlikely to get to grips with GP4 if you're not used to "the Crammond way". Not saying Geoff makes poor quality games per se (GP4 is a polished effort if you can agree to it's "terms of use"), just that they carry a lot of hanovers from an earlier era of coding/gaming. Pity the game allows the user the option to destroy the illusion. Another limiting factor is that I'm now a complete and utter FF junkie. > I find F12002 majority disappointing by comparison. F1 2k2 is a nice (FF) drive, but the tracks.... I mean, I've never been much of a stickler for track accuracy, but... I wonder how much of that is due to (our) long acquaintance with the game series and Geoff's way of doing things. > The perspective is among the best in that eye strain > is at a minimum when looking properly up the track, > and the track are stunning. Almost as good as SBK2K. True... the tracks are big improvement over the previous titles. The view is a little "static" for my taste nowadays, but it does the job admirably. > If you can return it, pick it up and spend as much > time as they allow with it. I have little hope of a Crammond novice getting his wheel set up in this incarnation, let alone him getting to sample the driving, sorry. > PS Force feedback is strictly out with this title. Correct. > (Or any title from now until the next evolution desktop > mechanical devices.) Disagree, but we've talked through this already. Jan. =---
