RASCAR league North Carolina race and Phoenix preview

After T_White won the RASCAR North Carolina race, members discussed clean public servers, freezes caused by hot video cards, and a racially abusive driver on a Sierra server. Larry and EldredP found the Phoenix kink hard to judge, and Jan Verschueren said steering lock settings would fix it, a claim the others rejected.

I practiced for this race on the 429ford races on Sierra. Is it just me, or are the races on there exceptionally clean? "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Eldred, I have practiced on 429 too and had the same experience for the most part. Of course, there is always the exception. Here lately, I have been getting some experience avoiding the wreckers and its kinda entertaining as long as I know that going into the race. I usually start in the rear and watch the wreckers and then try to go around them. About half way through the race the wreckers are usually all gone and then you race to see how close you can finish to the leader. For some reason I didn't think I was going to like that track, but it turned out to be a pretty good race by everyone. Especially the first 125 laps or so. Only a couple of yellows. Had a lot of fun with Joonli and JeLe for awhile during the first 60. David G Fisher "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Some guy took to calling me jap and foreigner. Must be because of the screen name Joon Li. Thought it was pretty amusing considering I am really just run-of-the-mill white trash.
I think they have made this track a lot easier in N2002 as compared to N4. I remember in N4 that after about 10 laps your RR was gone and if you so much as looked at the gas you would spin out. Coulda just been the setup, but I seem to remember never really being able to fix it. All my setups in N2002 for this track do not seem to have this problem. You mean there's people in RASCAR who cause wrecks intentionally? I would say there usually are less prepared, less aware or perhaps less skillfull players present in the races, but no wreckers. Jan. =---

Jan, I was talking about wreckers on the sierra races. I did not mean to imply that there were wreckers in RASCAR. I haven't seen one yet. If there were, I'm sure they would be removed in short order. cheers, grub "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:TLXx9.6127$[email hidden]...

I think my freezes are attributable to my video card getting hot. I took one side of the case off before the NC race and didn't have any problems. However, I was getting a 1-second freeze after initially getting on the track. I think this might be another problem, more to do with the sim. Hopefully, I'll have my new system assembled before the race on Saturday, but I doubt it. Maybe I'll stick the new video card in, though. :) -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker & "programming deity" http://www.paddedwall.org/john DeMONS/1 for Nascar Racing 3 & Nascar Legends http://www.paddedwall.org/demons DeMONS/2 for Nascar Racing 4 and 2002 Season (in development) http://www.paddedwall.org/demons2 RASCAR Roster http://www.paddedwall.org/rascar Barbarian Diecast Collector (490+ cars and counting) http://www.paddedwall.org/diecast If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

I was having those too, putting in one of those blowers in the pci slot below my video card stopped it. Now every now and then I still get brief periods of funky psychadelic color flashes (maybe just acid flashbacks), but no more lockups. We're gonna have some troubles here, and I think the 'kink' is going to be a handful. I do not like how the car feels coming through this section. The front-end feels like it is 'floating', and to go fast you have to do it so it 'floats'right out to the wall. I see problems in the kink where cars that are up high try to keep from going low and hitting a car under them, and end up hitting that damned wall. Or, they mis-judge the kink and drive the low-line car down into the grass at the kink apex. The 'kink' bothers me :) The rest of the track is fine. -Larry "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > >I'm going to practice some for Phoenix though since it's not a typicaloval.

Hmm, what kind of steering lock are you using on the fast setup? -I don't seem to have that vaguenessproblem there. Side by side is not possible without a feather on either line, IMO, but as to not being able to judge where it's going to go I, personally, don't foresee many problems. Jan. =---

One thing I noticed is that it is harder (for me at least) to miss a wreck that happens ahead of you. Maybe I've just had a bad run of luck here, but it feels like wrecks take up nearly the whole track in places.
Default, whatever that is. But it's not the steering lock. You can tell that the tires are "up on top of the road" so to speak. Almost feels like hydroplaning just as you come off of turn 2 towards that jutting wall. -Larry "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:mEvy9.8963$[email hidden]...

It's a fast-action track. No doubt about that. You aren't into the corners slow and lazy like Loudon. You're in hard on the brakes and hard on the gas out. Shit happens. I drove a 40% race with the SOAR-LAS league there last Saturday without any practise whatsoever, using the fast setup with just the steering lock and the brake balance adjusted to suit my rig. I had no trouble navigating the kink on my own, fighting for position or lapping people. Neither myself, nor any of the other competitors ever came close to nailing the bit of wall jutting out of 2 just before the kink either. I passed and was passed through 1-2 as well without trouble. On one occasion I swiped the wall out of 4 pretty hard, but that was just in-attention rather than a problem with the track or the "fast" setup. I'm sure now that I've said this, murphy's law will see to it I wipe out spectacularly in that section in the RASCAR race, though.... <g> Jan. =---

I didn't know you could adjust the brake bias in fixed setup mode. I just use it (and the steering settings) the way it came out of the box. -- ========================================================= Redneck Techno-Biker & "programming deity" http://www.paddedwall.org/john DeMONS/1 for Nascar Racing 3 & Nascar Legends http://www.paddedwall.org/demons DeMONS/2 for Nascar Racing 4 and 2002 Season (in development) http://www.paddedwall.org/demons2 RASCAR Roster http://www.paddedwall.org/rascar Barbarian Diecast Collector (490+ cars and counting) http://www.paddedwall.org/diecast If you want to send me email, go to the first URL shown above & click "Send Me Mail" in the contents frame. =========================================================

You can't adjust brake bias in fixed setup mode. SOAR-LAS is open setup, but I hadn't practised at all, so I just took the fast setups, saved as and changed the steering lock (as I usually do in RASCAR) and the brake bias (as I wish I could in RASCAR... I hate LF lock-ups) to suit my wheel/pedal combo. Jan. =---

Well, you guys are just that much better than I am. That's one of the reasons I quit Soar-LAS... For me, it has nothing to do with the steering. I simply can't see the turn clearly enough to know when to turn, what speed to be at, etc. I have the same issues on several GPL tracks(Silverstone being the worst). I did - it STILL isn't steering lock...<g> Eldred -- Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett GPLRank:+6.19 N2002 Rank:+18.91 Never argue with an idiot. He brings you down to his level, then beats you with experience... Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.

Eldred, try driving in chase view. It really helps with the road courses. If you want to get closer to the track but still be high enough to see, use the roof view. Both of these views are also easier on the FPS from what I've seen.
