Go Petter Go!!
(For those who dont undertand all the fuzz.... Should Petter go on and win
the RAC - it would be the first WRC-rally victory for a Norwegian - and
perhaps the highest achivement of any Norwegian motorsports driver - ever!)

Not forgetting... it would also mean that Petter get his first WRC victory
*and* the runner up spot in the championship!

I don't have words... It's just so unbelievably brilliant.
First race win and second in the championship, from 7th after last
race.
It's not the highest achivement of any Norwegian motorsports driver,
it's one of the highest achivements in Norwegian sport, period.

Yes. And note "one of", not "the" only. Some of the skiers are
impressive aswell, but the opposition isn't exactly the same. And
motorsport is not really big in this country either, and doing
motorsports here is basically a uphill battle all the way. It's 1000
times easier to get support for winter sports or soccer.

Not gonna argue you on that one, I don't know much about Norwegian sport.
Solberg had been due for a win for some time now. One could really see him
knocking on the door so many times this season. It's nice to see him finally
kick it down, especially after some of the stuff he's had to endure over the
year. Well done, I say. My prediction: future WC if given the right
equipment.

Fresh air, I've heard about it, but as with most other thing not related
to motorsports and/or computers, I've dismissed it as a passing fad

No, but Gunde Svan crushed the opposition in his day on the nordic circuit,
had lungs the size of Russia, was about 2.5 metres tall (seemingly) and
looked rather like Thor the thunder guard. He also drove an incredibly mean
looking yellow Ruf Porsche, usually sideways.
Now, here's a stretch, but I would say that nordic skiing is alot like auto
racing, in that you have to be there at least once to appreciate it, and you
need to pick the right spot. Watching the skiers (or drivers) zip past on
the straightaway is dull as nails, and the television coverage always just
shows Dahlie (or Schumacher) disappearing into the distance. Now, stand on
the outside of a nasty, icy, tree-lined, off-camber downhill blind corner
(also appropriate for brainless rally fans :-) and watch the fun as the
skiers, still oxygen-starved and groggy from the previous uphill, try to
keep it together at 70kph on two skinny little 3cm skies. Fun fun fun!

I know, most world/olympic class athletes are good because they're
determined to be the best they can be, not necessarily because they are
predispositioned for being good at that particular event, although some
physical attributes are necessary in many sports, so it's not surprising
that some of them does well in other forms of sports as well
