Hi folks, can somebody advise on how to optimize GTR2 performance? While the game usually runs ok offline in testing mode, I have some fps issues with larger fields of cars and online. For instance, heading towards the Mercedestribuene at Hockenheim hitting the curbs on the right, fps drops below 20 sometimes while it's 70+ at other parts of the circuit. Same goes for the infield section at Valencia and parts of Oschersleben. My rig runs all other sims (rF, GTL, N2K3, F1C, GPL, nkpro, RBR etc.) ok, so I don't think there's something generally wrong with the setup. GTR2 runs at 1280x1024x32, no AA / AF on an X800 GTO AGP (omega drivers set to "quality" mostly for D3D), AMD64 3200+, 1 GB RAM, Asus A8V Deluxe mainboard, SB Audigy ZS2, winxp pro sp2 (optimized service wise according to blackviper.com, no antivirus / fw thingies as the box is protected by a Linux router), with a momo DFP and TSW pedals as separate controllers. I've set shadows to medium as that used to help a lot in the past with GTR and track detail to "high" instead of full, also tried DX8 instead of DX9, turning off motec / mirrors, driver arms, but all to no avail. It seems like esp. going over some curbing has a big effect on the fps, but I'm not sure and it's not the case for all curbs as far as I know. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, Uwe -- GPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61
Try turning off all animations. Make the following changes in your plr file. Let us know if it works. Arms Visible In Cockpit="0" Driver Animations="0" Track Animations="0" Disable All Character Anims="1" "Uwe Schuerkamp" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Hi Jim, thanks a bunch, that did the trick! Esp. the all character animations bit. Before, fps would drop from 120 (in dx7, yep, I tried it all ;-) to < 40 at the Donington back straight, now I lose only 10-15 fps in that section. Also, the curb-hitting low fps at Hockenheim heading for Mercedes-Tribuene seems to be solved! All the best & thanks again, Uwe -- GPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61
Also check the readme.txt in the game install folder. Andi. "Uwe Schrkamp" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
