Hi Goy, I know what a huge Larry Perkins fan you are, so you probably already know that this weekends Sandown V8 races will be Larry's last. He is finally tossing it in and concentrating on his tractor collection. Just thought i would let you know, in case you hadn't heard. Cheers, Ron
Damn you Ron <G> I lost your address a while back when a new machine arrived, and you post with that email address. Howabout sending it over sometime. It's been too long..... MS "Ron Ayton" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:01c296ce$741ecc40$6a5b8b90@ronayton...

What, who where ???? Noooo, I thought he'd race forever Thx for the heads up, I don't follow it as closely as I used to, the total lack of TV coverage here makes it hard to follow, I even visited his site not too long ago and didn't see anything about this Oh well, he IS getting a bit old :-), but at least he finished his driving career with some honor instead of staying on until he was too old and ran at the tail end of the field all the time He's not shutting down the racing shop as well is he ? Larry will continue running both cars in the 2003 series with Steven Richards and Paul Dumbrell the expected drivers. He is also prepping his 16 year old son Jack for a future career in the mighty Castrol Commodore once he has finished his schooling...lucky bastard !! Seems your question has been answered Goy :)) Sorry i didn't reply sooner, but i just got home from a hard day in the Salt mine... Like Phil said, just because Larry isn't driving, doesn't mean he won't be involved somewhere in Ozzie V8 racing... Anyway, hope you have been keeping well Goy, been a while since i emerged out of lurk mode and actually posted on RAS... :) Take care, Ron. Yup, sure did, I didn't think he'd actually retire the team as well, but this line in your original post scared the crap out of me..."He is finally tossing it in and concentrating on his tractor collection" :-) Yes I've been keeping well, <enter PR mode> read the results from the latest BR1000 and see just how well :-))) <exit PR mode>, always good to hear from you Ron, don't be a stranger Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "goyl at nettx dot no" "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ "A man is only as old as the woman he feels" --Groucho Marx--
Ron. Could you attempt to connect to the GPVL/GMSS news server with that antiquated software you're using sir? I ended up dropping Exchange and going back to the default software and want to know if you can still can't connect. Fire me an email if you need the addy. It was actually pretty fun! Nice to see some guys not afraid to rub fenders on a road course for a change :) Kind of like Nascar with wiggles! -Larry "Goy Larsen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Turned on the stuff from this past season on Speed Channel andthey > are all there still. > dave henrie I was there in 94. Also have the vid - very good stuff but better to be on top of the mountain :) Those red commodores were quick machines but Larry's cars have the legs to be fast all day. I know I'm biased, but I'm not surprised that they are all still racing - the v8 series is well run, has good tv coverage and has some of the closest racing in the world - especially road racing. If I was a professional driver, a series which is close, tough but still possible to win from anywhere in the top 15, this would be my choice. Highlight of the past race weekend is a good example : Lowndes trying to pass another falcon (Wilson?) has to slow down as said car gets taily in front of him. Both valvoline cars (tander and bargwanna) swoop in from behind and they end up briefly 4 wide down the back straight. Lowndes and Bargs drop back into a two wide train until 150m before the chicane lowndes dives down the inside hard on the brakes from 260k's (three wide again briefly) and gets past all three cars (on the very edge too from what I could see). Very entertaining and Mr Lowndes has big brass ones for that move. The drivers are pretty involved in the direction of the series which has made a big difference as well. Next year will be exciting again as we get both new model cars. A few of the ford team engineers have said the AU series was hard to work with and we will have a closer comp next year with the BA. I have a datto myself (therefore not so biased), and despite liking the commodore more as a car, would love to see russell ingall in a falcon kicking skaifeys butt next year. Anyway, some thoughts from a local. And I too will miss Larry - especially in the wet around Mt Panorama. I was there for two of Larry's wins at Bathurst. On-Topic : The Australian tracks I have now tried out on GPL are absolute awesome - Oran Park is incredibly accurate. iksteh
