Does anybody have a .plr-file stanza covering moderate FF settings for the
original MOMO? I'm not having much luck sorting thru onscure lines like:
"FFB steer damper saturation="1.00000" // Saturation value to use for
steering damper. Range: 0 - 1.0"
--Steve Smith
I have the new MOMO and simply shut off (set to 0) the non-road related
vibrations
and turned the brake vibration down a lot. The rest feels
fantastic as-is. I just don't like useless repetitious vibrations getting
in the way of the real road/surface-based FFB.
What's the problem with the FFB on your rig?
Marc
FFB steer vibe freq mult="0.00000" // Controls frequency of steering
vibration. Recommended: 0.5 to 1.0, 0.0 disables steering vibration.
FFB throttle vibe freq mult="0.00000" // Scales actual engine frequency to
force FFB vibration frequency. Suggested range: 0.10 to 0.50
FFB brake vibe freq mult="0.30000" // Scales actual brake rotational
frequency to force feedback vibration frequency.

you tried just setting the slider to -50% or so and the effects strength
to low or off? Those settings should give you a nice moderate level of
FF with minimal or no vibration and other gee-whiz stuff. Also, FF
seems to be affected by steering sensitivity, so make sure you have
speed sensitivity off (in the controller rates menu) and x axis
sensitivity at 50% (which is linear) with no deadspot. Even though you
can do some really neat things by tweaking the player file, it's not
necessary unless you are after some particularly obscure feeling that
you think is missing. I really think the settings above ought to be
good enough for 99% of the wheel users out there.

And once you set the lines in the .PLR file to custom, you can't go back
into the menu in the game or it will reset things. I didn't want to use a
lower than full FFB setting in the game menu because I didn't know exactly
what it was turning off and no one here could give me the specifics.

FF effects to LOW. FF strength to -70%. Perfect "physics feel" with no
annoying vibrations.

Marc,
No problem, per se, but I'm not getting much feedback from my FF, so to
speak. For example, I turned on "jolt" and I can feel it when I wang the
wall, but I get no kick from champagne, er, riding the curbs, er kerbs (the
game *is* teddibly British, wot?).
I have tried all the easy stuff from the menus (dead zone, sensitivity,
linearity, etc.), and messed some with the text files (the "glance" hack is
kewl), and by-and-large everything feels great (I particularly like the
banging and jostling FX; I only wish it was counter-balanced, er, damped,
with a virtual cockpit; that is, your head isn't on a pike in the cockpit,
it bobs up and down a bit, somewhat smoothing out the ups and downs of the
chassis).
All in all, a fabulous mod; miles better than the original game. It's the
first thing that's come along in 4 years (hint, hint) that I haven't been
able to leave alone. Maybe I'd better quit before I need glasses....

Just kept fooling around until I hit on some stuff I liked (like overall
force: -70). Great work by the SimBin Dev't Team, especially "our own" Doug
Arnao, who was my good right arm writing the GPL strategy guide. He really
knows his stuff!
Now all we need is to get "our own" Alison Hine to fix the Net code. How
about it, CobraAli?

The West's used to talk of having Alison on board for assistance with the net
code of WSC, but rumour had it that they never even spoke to her about it...

Do you now have GPL-quality FFB?

These two posts have got my FF to near-GPL levels (maybe 75%) but not quite.
A little more tweaking for me and it'll be almost there.

Sorry, meant to say -60 or -55. I don't like a lot of FF. GPL had pretty
good FF for its day (back in a pre-Jurassic 1998), but there have been much
better implementations since then...including Papy's endless iterations of
NASCAR Racing and F12002/GTR2002.
To me, the biggest improvement over GPL (other than the tire modeling, which
has come even further than FF), is the modeling of small, high-frequency
bumps (GPL has only large undulations), and the shock settings to deal with
them. It seems insanely realistic to have the car jiggling vertically in
all the right places; just like "In-Car 956."
Speaking of which, I say a prayer every night that the SimBin Dev't Team's
next project will be to model:
1. The heyday of GTP racing (Porsche 956, Sauber C9/C11, Jaguar XJR-12,
Mazda 757B, etc.), or
2. The F1 "Turbo Era" (the mid-80s), or, most of all
3. The early, innovative years of the Can-Am ('66-'68) with all the
disparate attempts to create the perfect car: the tried-and-true Lola, the
first winged Chaparral, the tiny but ferocious Shadow, the hulking Honker,
the giant-killer 908, the double-de Dion Caldwell, the ultimate Ferrari 612,
etc.
Any of these projects would bring us back to the time when tracks were
daunting monsters, not Mickey Mouse "technical" tracks like Sepang.
BTW, where the hell's the Corvette C5R?

I don't know where it is, but I know it shouldn't be in this mod...
they don't run the C5R in FIA GT series ;-)

The Virtua LeMans guys have already done that for F1 2k1. It's
called the 3.5Litre Group C mod. They also have done a LeMans 99 with
Toyota/Bmw and some new company to Endurance racing, Audi.

THere are several historic F1 mods for 2k2 already in progress. Thrasher
is working on an 80's era and SIMBIN...yes those guys...are planning on a 79
era mod(the black JPS Lotus and the noseless Ferrari's). And I think
recently somebody wanted to mod up the mid 90's to display the Williams team
at their peak.

THAT is a must have. High Winged sports cars with open displacement
engines. Of course after 5 minutes the field will all choose the Porche
917x so maybe that one could be accidentally ignored. :)
ack! the Yellow Scourge, the Yellow Menace. The yellow car that is
built outside of GTS rules and then whines when the Saleen does the same.!!!
:) If you want to see Ron Fellows and company, the SSM mod...now renamed
LeMans 2k2 is the place for you. And for F1 2k1 there is the RSDG
SportsCarPak. (SCP)
The 'reason' there is no C5 in the GTR mod, is that the Corvette team
does not participate in the European FIA series which is what GTR mimics.
The team plans, from what I've read, to include some extra cars that ran the
SPA 24hour race but that was an FIA event. A quadruple points event that
led to the triumph of the Viper over the faster but more fragile Ferraris
for the season and driver championships.
here endeth the lesson. :)

The 3.5Litre Group C mod doesn't sound like the era I lust after, if they're
doing Le Mans 1999. I long for the days when the Mulsanne Straight was just
that, not a dizzying series of chicanes, and the blatty Mazda rotary (an
IMSA invitee, if memory serves) could be heard all the way to Marseilles.
Black Lotii and rhinoplastied Ferraris sound great; sign me up.
Maybe the C5R doesn't run in the same class as GTR's bolides, but it runs in
the same races (Le Mans, Daytona...come to think: where's Daytona?). All I
know is what I see on TV. I'd be happy to see the cheater Saleen, too, or
even the double-ugly Panoz roadsters, anything but that pig of a Marcos.
(Let me see if I got this straight: the Corvette isn't a production car but
the Marcos and the Lister are?)
As I indicated, to avoid getting buried by Penske's Panzers (or the Bruce &
Denny Show), a Can-Am mod would be better served by leaving these cars on
the trailer (or in the virtual transporter). The Can-Am was a great series
before first the McLaren M8Bs (I'd guess I'd have to allow the non-winged
version) and then Donohue's 917K flattened the opposition (I guess I'd allow
the earlier 917 coupes, too). But I draw the line at the Chaparral "sucker"
car.
Hell, I'd be happy with Ford GT40s, Chaparral 2Ds, Porsche Flunders, and
Ferrari 330Ps!

The LM 99 mod is separate from the 3.5l Group C. Which has
Mazdas/PoohJoes/PurpleJags/Merceds/&red Toyotas.
drivers like Eddie Irvine, some kid named Villenueve. Another no-name
Schumacher.

Although many of the cars do race there. The C5R(or GTP as we like to call
it) is IN the same class as these cars...money can buy you anything...but
the Vette ONLY goes to Europe once a year for LeMans. So, since the modders
are building a mod based on the FIA GT SERIES then the vette(note no-caps)
doesn't make the roster. If Pratt & Whitne...err Pratt & Miller want to
Pony up the Euros and campaign a full season over there, THEN you might
convince the SIMBIN crew to include the Canadien Rocket.
Can't you run down to your corner dealer and buy a Marcos or Lister? Gosh
if you couldn't...wouldn't that be...wrong....kinda like driving while
hanging onto the roof? (dang! slamming everyone today!)

Wouldn't it be fun to drive..??? probably just port over the current
F1 physics for downforce.

Everytime I saw the BMW LMR I thought of that old CHappy. Hey...did ya see
Ford can't sell the GT 40? they don't own the rights to the name...it will
be the GT. Whooooo
