A friend was in New Orleans for a seminar yesterday so I had him pick me up a ($99)MOMO FF wheel at CompUSA. (None of the local stores had one...Best Buy, Circuit City etc.....) He dropped it off to me at work 3 hours before I could go home....yes....I had that Giddy "Christmas morning" feeling we all used to get as kids!!(I'm 42!) To make it worse, my wife calls right as I'm leaving and gives me several errands to run before I can go home....Dohhhhhh!! That beautiful red & black box rode shotgun next to me in my new Ferrari.....wait......that was a dream I had the other night....my 01'Civic. Luckily, she's gone with our 3 kids when I arrive at home so I have no distractions as I go through the "New Hardware" setup ritual. I've had a LWFF "red" wheel since 98' and was quit pleased with its performance for the past few years. But, after reading the posts about the new MOMO...I had to try one! The install goes without a hitch.... everything seems to be working in the test panel so It's time to fire up GTR2002 and give her a spin. Palms are sweating...heart is racing...pulse is racing...it's time for racing!! I load Donnington with the 550M for the initial test run. After about 2 laps, I am grinning like the "Joker"!! This wheel is awesome!! I was expecting to be "underwhelmed". I didn't figure that I would see much difference between the old & the new...boy was I wrong!! If I had to pick one phrase to sum up the difference it would be: Smooth Precision. BTW...I've bought other wheels since getting my LWFF but they all went back.... Not this baby! There is nothing negative I can think of about this wheel..I even love the pedals (been using CH Pro Pedals) and for $99.00?? WOW! The only negative is the weak manual. But, I'm no rookie so it wasn't an issue anyway. My System is homemade. 1.8mhz XP Athlon/Asus MB, 512Ram(2700), G4 4400AGP, 60G 7200RPM HD, SB Live W/2.1 Klipsch Speakers (these ROCK!), 19" Flat Viewsonic...cable modem. It's been a LONG time since that "Special" warm, fuzzy feeling I had when I first got Grand Prix Legends...the feeling of being on the "EDGE" is back!!(The sensation of speed is far better than GPL also.)....GTR2002+MOMO has brought it all back in spades!! I'm ecstatic to say the least! GTR2002 is now the KING in my book (sorry GPL fanboys). The only thing to do now is get this sucker optimized for multiplayer racing. So...whoever's reading this and has doubts about getting the MOMO.... don't!! It's an unbelievable wheel for $99.00. SpeedRat
Did ya just miss the $20 rebate? I picked one up at compusa for $89 plus the rebate just a couple days ago. I feel exactly the same way as you do about the GTR2k2/Momo racing combo. I had an original momo but didnt really care for it so maybe GTR has something to do with it ;) Smooth/precise is right on the money. Thanks - that review means a lot coming from a fellow LWFF owner. It certainly sounds like a really great wheel. One common criticism is regarding the clamping system. How do you find it? My wheel is at my desk so I have to unclamp it quite frequently... None of the stores near me have a momo racing for me to check out, but I'm very tempted to order one anyway. The main problem is that they retail here in Australia for $249! (which, even after currency conversion, is double the cheapest price in the US!) Any aussies know where I can order one online a bit cheaper?

Glad you like it but to rob a popular line from ras: "it aint no TSW2". I went to the CompUSA and bought one of these as well just to try out a force feedback wheel. I used to use a LWFF and stopped using it immediately after getting the TSW2 because the TSW2 was just so much more precise and I never felt like I could ever push it too hard to where it would ever break. I figured that a couple of years later that the quality of these Logitech wheels would be getting closer to the quality of the TSW2. I was wrong. The Momo just felt like a toy to me. The steering was no where near as precise nor was the pedals' travel as good as the TSW2 pedals, even with the pots that are worn out on the TSW2. I tried the Momo with GTR2002, F12k2, and with Nascar2k2. I felt I could "feel" the car better with the TSW2 even though it doesnt have force feedback. Plus, when the pots go bad on the TSW2, you can replace them yourself easily instead of the horror stories I've head of that people with the original Momo have. They've been basically told that you cant do that and that you could ship it to them and they would fix it for the price of a new one. So, if you are in sim racing for the long haul, I would go with the TSW2 hands down. I used to keep buying the Thrustmaster t2's and Nascar Pro's and then I got the LWFF. All in all I bought 7 wheels before the TSW2 in 5 years. I wont be buying another store bought model after my test with the Momo ... > bought 7 wheels before the TSW2 in 5 years. Damn, what the hell do you do to them? Does the new momo feel as solid as the LWFF (which has stood up to everything I've dished out to it, with some regular maintenance)
I raced in 3-5 league races a week for a lot of that time especially when Hawaii and TEN was around, not to mention the other games I would play. I was in college most of that time :) As far as being as solid, it seems like it is as solid but it feels tighter, like the plastic is so stiff on this thing that its like driving an old 80's car with the plastic dashes. If you were to hit a pot hole in the road, you would almost hear it like it was going to crack. Well, that's the way the momo felt compared to the TSW2. I'll tell you this though, the pedals that come with the new one are a lot better than the ones that came with the original LWFF. The pedals were so bad on the LWFF that a buddy of mine wound up taking the pedals off of a Nascar Pro wheel and re-wiring them to work with the LWFF and that was a pretty good setup. He wound up doing the same thing for me and I used that until I got the TSW2. I havent hooked up the LWFF since then ... Hey again Damien! Concerning the clamping system....I dont have any issues with them. There are three clamps but, I only use the outside two. I clamp mine to the slide-out keyboard tray (wooden) and it is about 5/8" thick so the rear clamp doesn't get it tight enough. I too unclamp frequently and find using the outside clamps to be just as easy...maybe even easier(than the LWFF)! There is a removable cowl directly behind the wheel that hides the....the....uhhh...thing-a-ma-bobbers that clamp it down. It pops on and off with no problem! I don't see how anyone could have any major issues with this clamping system especially compared to some that I've seen. I'm sure the center clamp works fine on a thicker desk and it is easy to use also...I don't see the big criticism here..... really!! $249.00????? WOW! That is highway robbery! It is worth getting but..... sure makes you wonder don't it? gotta go do some laps..... SpeedRat

The new Momo is my first wheel. Wish I had found the rebate, but at 99 bucks it looked like the best deal- better than the Microsoft wheel for the same price. It's good they reduced the price. It was the best wheel I tried out and CompUSA. I've never had a non-FF wheel, so I really can't compare them. It seems like the wheel does lose a little precision in some games because of the gear mechanisms, and especially if the control isn't great to start out with (about half the racing games out there, IMO, have iffy controls), and of course this wheel does feel a bit notchy too, but you can get used to it and it really isn't so bad once you get a decent amount of force feedback and spring force. Pedals are fine but do yourself a favor and get some of that rubber grippy stuff. Do that and the pedals won't move ever. And drive barefoot.

Different strokes.... My TSW2 has been gathering dust ever since GPL came out with good FF and I bought a LWFF. I recently replaced it (still worked fine) with an original MOMO.

I gotta agree with you, Bob. While my original TSW is a great, rock-solid wheel, I also made the switch to the LWFF when GPL got it's FF patch. However, I still use the TSW peds along with the LWFF in any sim that supports 2 controllers. So, now that you've switched to the Momo, how do you like it? Is it that much better than the LWFF? And is it the original Momo, or the "new" one? Bert [email hidden] wrote:
