GTR2002 : Show some support !

Appeal for donations to the GTR2002 team

Andy reported that GTR2002 had over 75,000 downloads but only about 400 pounds in donations, less than half a month's server costs. Many posters said they had donated or then did so. Others debated the bandwidth maths and suggested adding a donation reminder in the game.

I've just read on the GTR 2002 official forum that after more than 75,000 downloads of this mod, the amount of donations is just over 400 Apparently the server costs for just one month are more than double that so help is required ! If you haven't yet donated and are enjoying playing this mod then how about showing some support and making a contribution ? I'm sure you'd like further development of this superb game and even small amounts would help and prove that they are appreciated. More details (including a paypal link) are shown here http://www.simmods.com/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=27&t=8321&s=9a0072f862a07f5 5b1e8b116f11a2e6c cheers, Andy. p.s. I'm not linked in any way to the team behind GTR 2002, blah blah blah :-)
Hmmm; 400.... At 10 per, that's only 40 people, which seems a bit hard to imagine from 75K+ downloads. I have to wonder how accurate that is. But even if they're counting clicks to DL, and not successful file transfers, that's a lot of traffic. From the invoice Ian posted on the forum, their excess charges from the initial GTR2002 traffic (a bit over 40GB in a week @ .015/MB) were 793 (incl/118 of VAT - yikes!). How about a show of hands? I was more than happy to chip in 10, which was over half what I paid for the full game. Seemed about right for an add-on. Anyone? I contributed the equivalent of 25 Euros, which is also about half of a major, full price game over here. Jan. =---

Don't really understand the maths here.... 45 gig of traffic divided by 270 meg per download is 166 downloads. Not 75000 downloads. So no wonder they're short of money - it costs 4 quid per complete download in server charges! "Steve Blankenship" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Hmmm; 400.... Actually, once they've maxed out their bandwidth quota, he's right; the incremental cost to them is about 4 ($6+) per full download. The mod's hosted in various locations now so it's not all on them anymore, but they still have costs to recover. Here's hoping they end up with enough left over for a round of beers! Meant to do the right thing but it slipped my mind completely until I read your post. Sent them 10 quid (or CDN$ equivalent thereof) which seems reasonable for a very well done mod particulary since in addition to the mod they're having to bear server charges as well. Great mod! David

Wow! You guys are generous. I guess I'm just too much of a miser and only chipped in $10 USD. I figured an addon for a $19.99 game that I had to download with no box/manual that that would be fair. -Tim "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:YbnL9.53861$[email hidden]...

I think they should have added a link or notice to the menu screen in the game. I'll bet most people never really thought about donating but if they were reminded they would be more than happy to donate a fair amount. -Tim "Andy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I've just read on the GTR 2002 official forum that after more than 75,000 > downloads of this mod, the amount of donations is just over 400 > > Apparently the server costs for just one month are more than double thatso > help is required ! > > If you haven't yet donated and are enjoying playing this mod then howabout > showing some support and making a contribution ? If I could get the mod to work as well as the game does, I would gladly donate. But as I get very poor frame rates etc. I see no need to play it let alone donate.
"M Knorr" wrote... > <snip> > If I could get the mod to work as well as the game > does, I would gladly donate. But as I get very poor > frame rates etc. I see no need to play it let alone > donate. Well, the original post only called for those enjoying the mod to contribute. It would appear you're not enjoying it, so... The mod doesn't appear to perform differently to F1 2k2 on my machine, so perhaps you're suffering from a configuration problem. There are RAS regulars who appear to know F1 2k2 and the mod inside out. Couldn't hurt to post a summary of the problem and you specs, I'd say. Jan. =---
I think most people get very similar framerates in the mod as the original game. Probably the biggest drawback are the extra cars. The full field with GTR is 36 or 37 cars. That's a-lot of extra strain on your cpu and vidsystem. Try cutting back the ammount of CPU driven cars to 21, which would equal the F1 field and then try it again. Good luck. dave henrie "M Knorr" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:F56N9.5712$[email hidden]...
