You like driving games because you have a tiny dick!

Mocking an article linking driving games to inadequacy

Tim O linked a games-site article arguing that driving games appeal to male insecurity. Posters responded mostly with crude jokes, some noting the article was about console games, not sims, and others dismissing it as bait for web hits.

I used to have a HUGE one, but playing racing games left me little time for boffing, so--use it or lose it--it shriveled up, turned black, and fell off. "Tony Rickard" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:1ejP9.4912$[email hidden]...

Just a guy trying to find some special metaphore for people's interest in racing.... sometimes a cigar is just a cigar... Reminds me of one of my french teacher who thought the opening sequence of the first Indiana Jones movie was a metaphore for the birth of a heroe... I think it's fair to say that we love sim racing because of our competitive nature (specially when racing online) and our love for the sport in the first place. He we followed his thinking, we could consider people that play NHL hockey as people wanting to play the role of NHL super stars but didn't have the ability to the it in the real world. I'd say I play it with my buddies simply for fun :) Anyway, I guess the guy had a lot of time to waste between Christmas and New Years :) -- Philippe "Philster" Sergerie (remove "NOSPAM" to reply) "Tim O" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > http://www.avault.com/articles/getarticle.asp?name=pistonenvy > > An article on racing sims by a male that is a radical feminist. > What a party. >

Well said. There is another clue in the last sentence: "...but unless the gaming community insists on watching our hobby with rigorous academic interest..." Why would we want to spend our time doing that? We could pay rigorous academics for that. I would assume that most in the "gaming community" prefer more useful pursuits during their leisure hours. Nor do we get paid for err, "stuff" like that article. Some more reasons the "mainsteam press" has yet to attack racing video games, and also forces that would continue to reduce such interest: The racing genre has a higher proportion of low rated games than any genre I can think of except those specifically targeted to children's education. (That is: non-violent, non-sexual, not-even-any-tobacco-advertising, etc. Gee, we even provide an environmentally safe alternative to polluting activities :) Professional and amateur racing has millions of fans world wide. The advertising budgets for products tied into racing that are advertised in the mainstream press are appropriately large. Companies are beginning to exploit that market through advertising using racing games. Connect the dots. In the industry, we can tsk-tsk games on the outer fringe that might bring adverse attention. But mostly to position our own titles as being cleaner and more wholesome. ;) - Matt

He was saying everyone that plays driving games basically does so because they have delusions of grandeur. In fact, if you race sims, you might even be worse because you're taking it more seriously. I told him that was kind of a silly assumption to make, and compared it to him writing editorial for a web magazine because he has delusions of writing for the Wall Street Journal. It just struck me as really pretentious and condescending. I hate that.
I've always wondered about something... I've never used a 5 point harness, but when you hit something wearing one of those, doesn't it, um, hurt like hell? I remember Mark Martin had a wreck several years ago (the one where he went whizzing through the infield and hit that fence at the end of his ride. It was obvious during the TV interview that he injured his 'marbles' in the process. Larry "Steve Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:z1EP9.157758$[email hidden]... > Damn! They're damn uncomfortable to *wear*, let alone hit anywhing whilst thus restrained!
