Hi folks, is it possible to install the MS FF Sidewinder Wheel software on Win2k? It's the midi/gameport version, and while it's detected fine as an input device, trying to install the Profiler software fails with a "version conflict" or something. Cheers & TIA for your comments, uwe PS: I'm asking this on behalf of a friend w/o usenet access -- mail replies to Uwe at schuerkamp dot de ( yahoo address is spambox) Uwe Schuerkamp //////////////////////////// http://www.schuerkamp.de/ Herford, Germany \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ (52.0N/8.5E) GPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61

It doesn't look like that. The wheel works however like a split axis wheel, but the profiler doesn't, so for every game without proper wheel configuration you're stuck. -- Olav Malmin remove .spam when replying
So, does the wheel show up in the Windows game Controller Panel? If not, it'll be hard to set FF strength and stuff like that. Maybe you can plug it into the USB port with one of the adapters that are available. Or, is it just the profiler software that doesn't work? If so, get RBJoy and use that instead. It's freeware. -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com "Uwe hoover Schuerkamp" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Hi folks, > > is it possible to install the MS FF Sidewinder Wheel software > on Win2k? There is NO profiler software available for the GamePort version under 2K/XP and there never will be. Microsoft will never support this configuration. Larry "Uwe hoover Schuerkamp" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

You can't set ANY of that stuff with the Gameport version in Win2K. All you can do is install it using the "SideWinder" generic device driver in the Game Controller Control Panel, and get a basic 4 axis device out of it. There will never be anything else where the GamePort version is concerned. I just keep my GamePort version for spare parts (haven't needed to use any yet) and bought a USB model close to 3 years ago. The USB model works with all OS's, profiler software and all. Mr. Gates doesn't care about your ability to use your GamePort SideWinder under 2K and XP and never will. That's ok. Same issues on both OS's. Anything above WinME is trouble for the GamePort version. Larry "Mario Gama" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:3e1e49f6$0$12555$[email hidden]...

So would it still be possible to activate FF in GPL's core.ini (or whereever) and get FF effects from the gameport version of the wheel? It works fine as a non-ff 4 axis game controller and shows up in control panel. cheers, uwe -- mail replies to Uwe at schuerkamp dot de ( yahoo address is spambox) Uwe Schuerkamp //////////////////////////// http://www.schuerkamp.de/ Herford, Germany \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ (52.0N/8.5E) GPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61
Not sure, but not likely. Doesn't the MSFF have a button on the wheel for turning on/off FF?

Hi Uwe, I'm running an old gameport version MSFF under WinXP and have full Force Feedback and separate axis brake and accelerator. I have been using this configuration for well over 12 months without trouble - certainly well enough to get to -14 GPLRank! If you have it working without FF at the moment, then all you need to do is enable the FF in core.ini and it will work. -- - Peter Ogden Perth, Western Australia http://www.locost7.info "Uwe hoover Schuerkamp" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > On Fri, 10 Jan 2003 14:50:28 GMT, Larry wrote: > > There is NO profiler software available for the GamePort version under 2K/XP > > and there never will be.
