Logitech replaces faulty MOMO; top-posting argument

Colin Harris praised Logitech for replacing his faulty MOMO Racing Force within nine days after he sent in its cut cables. Doug Ellison's sarcastic response irritated him. The thread became a long argument over top-posting versus bottom-posting.

Guys, last week I posted about my new momo Force being faulty on it's first race - I called customer service on the Tuesday, and they told me to snip the connecting wires off (so, of course, that I couldn't make it a scam and get two wheels for the price of one) and send the wires to Switzerland. This I did and now 9 days later my new wheel has arrived from Germany. Pretty darn good service, imo... Just thought you might like to know that...
So do you have a Momo (leather) without any connecting wires? What do you want for it? SLG On Thu, 16 Jan 2003 18:20:27 GMT, "Colin Harris" <[email hidden]> wrote:

when my logitech broke, they told me to get to the store where i bought it, and show my warranty, and get a new one. If they troubled me, the store should call a number that i got. Story One "I bought a new wheel and pedals - very nice they are as well" Story Two "I bought a new wheel and pedals but they stopped working after about an hour - the manufacturers said the quickest option was to take it straight back to the shop for an immediate exchange - so I was only without my wheel for an hour" Story Three "I bought a new wheel and pedals but they stopped working after about an hour - the manufacturers told me to cut some of it's cables off, post the to them, then I waitied 9 days for them to send me a new one" Which would YOU rather enjoy - and, in the unfortunate incident that the wheel were to not work after about an hour - which, from 2 or 3, would you prefer? Of a choice of no days, perhaps half a day, or a week and a half - which would you rather go without your wheel for? Which option of the three offers the best service. We had a monitor die at work at about 3ish in the afternoon. Courier arrived before lunchtime following day - gave us a new one, took the old one away. Granted - the monitor itself was exceedingly average Iiyama rubbish - BUT - their service was superb Had a graphics card arrive at home from an online retailer and it had been damaged in transit. New one arrived via a courier service the following day - and took the damaged one home after I'd sent the retailer some pictures of it. Excellent service on behalf ot the retailer. 24 hour turn around. Waiting 9 days to have a brand new object replaced is not good service - or am I just totally wide of the mark here? I'm a Logitech fan ( I am MR carbon fibre Momo mod - love the wheel to bits - and I'm lusting ater their MX700 Wireless mice as well ) - BUT- 9 days is NOT good service at all. If we're just going to fling personal insults however, then perhaps you could time references to my mother and hospital a little better than the week in which my Mother and Uncle sat at my grandfathers bedside and whatched him die. I'll be sure to think of you when addressing the post-funeral lunch guests next wednesday - I'll need a laugh. Doug

Forget it - next time, I'll just p*ss and moan on here like the majority....was only trying to help :-(((
It used to be that newsgroup etiquette meant that you didn't include a bunch of previous replies in yours (saves storage space and bandwidth) and if you had to include part of it to make your point, you always posted ON TOP (it's the same etiquette that says using cap letters is shouting). Besides, it's just common courtesy. Nobody wants to scroll though 2 pages of a previous post only to get to the bottom and read "agreed". Posting on the bottom was considered rude and lazy. It's easy enough to put up with if the poster is someone who's opinion you value and you really want to hear what he has to say, but ..... Logitech warranty support has always been ok, especially if you call them instead of email them. It's when the warranty runs out that you're out of luck. At that point, you can send them the wheel (cost about $20?), pay $100 for a replacement plus shipping (another $20?) for a total of about $140, or just go out and buy another one for $80. (those were my options for a LWFF at one time) -- Slot Tweaks & Reviews www.slottweak.com

Well, not a fair comparison perhaps, but after going through hundreds of e-mails a day at work, all of which have the replies top posted and most of which are fully quoted, I find it annoying to have to switch gears for a newsgroup. Besides, I think the whole bottom posting thing dates back to BBS days. Back then we were all severely bandwidth limited and so was the server. So we wanted to be able to download only the latest post in a thread and still be able to reconstruct the thread in order. That just isn't necessary any more. One of the other reasons I prefer top posting is that it makes the preview window so much more useful. Don't most news readers have this function? I have all messages grouped in threads, I mark all messages that I want to follow, and have the subject view sorted so that all marked threads float to the top. Then, with the preview window on, I can simply click on each message header and the top part of the message shows in the preview pane. If everyone top posted their reply I would be able to very quickly go through every new message in a thread, reading the replies in the preview pane in sequence. Am I the only one that has figured this out? This is by far the easiest way to use a news reader, but bottom posting, even with minimal quoting, messes it up. I will not rest until I have converted the entire Internet. ;o) "Uwe hoover Schuerkamp" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
