Sierra Germany poll shows strong demand for GPL2

Jason Moyer pointed to a poll on sierra.de asking what Papyrus should make after the NASCAR series ended, where GPL2 led overwhelmingly, reaching about 6,700 of 9,000 votes. Others voted for IndyCar or touring cars, and some doubted the poll meant anything.

This is surely just a big pricktease, but there's a poll on www.sierra.de asking what we'd like to see now that the NR series is ending with N2003. So far GPL2 is taking all comers. Jason
So far it has 324 out of 460 total votes - 70.43! That's pretty impressive. Of course, I imagine the same poll on the US site might go a bit differently. No Aussie V8s on the list ;-) "Marc Goldstein" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:t7fW9.61838$[email hidden]... > So far it has 324 out of 460 total votes - 70.43! That's prettyimpressive.

Well, if EA Sports is not renewing the license as I had heard, I think they should do F1. I want a game I can play that I can turn on live tv and see real drivers racing at, then fire up the PC version ... So far GPL2 is taking all comers. I voted for Indy Car Racing, trusting the good germans still think that's good old IndyCar and not this new fashion sham :) -- Olav Malmin remove .spam when replying

Make that 1239 of 1488 votes for a GPL sequeal now... thats over 83%! -- ed_ ---------------------------------------------------------------------- $10 says Petter Solberg wins the 2003 WRC.

We shouldn't concentrate so much on GPL2. I'd like to see GPL2, but a Touring Car or Indy Car sim made by Papy on the technical level of N2003 or beyond would be a blast as well. GPL2 would probably sell mainly to hardcore online sim racing fans, while a Touring Car / Sports Car (GTR?) or Indycar sim might appeal to a much larger audience, which would make it more likely that we'd get sequels. Sure, for some of us getting the '67 season was a particular blast, and I was one of them, but I think most of us would have been equally impressed by a Sportscar or Indycar sim with the incredibly advanced features GPL offered at the time of its release, simply because apart from the time GPL simulates, we all admire the technical expertise and programming genius that has flown into it. Voting for Touring Cars or Indycars might be more realistic and have a greater chance of actually becoming reality. I personally voted 3 times for Indy Cars. =) I love historical racing and would be happy with any 1950-1990 era sim from any of the major sports (F1, CART, Nascar, WSC, IMSA, etc). When it comes down to it, for me, you can't beat the diversity in CART. Jason
I actually think that the Indycars with their specific ratio between aerodynamic and mechanical grip are quite fascinating cars, and the tracks they drive on are likewise classics, although serious corner-cutting and curb-chasing isn't much of an option at the city circuits. Touring cars might be a little easier to drive overall due to their using mostly tracks custom built for racing. However, Indycars would cater for both RC and Oval fans, hence it might be the best of both worlds, and if they maintain the N2k3 track format, each group should get the opportunity to build add-on tracks to their liking. >"Joachim Trensz" <[email hidden]> wrote > GPL2 would probably sell mainly to hardcore online sim racing fans We wouldn't care much about how it sells, we just want it :) Technically, we just want a non-NASCAR release by Papyrus that is geared towards the simulation. I love the way the European webmasters at Sierra just do their own thing in total isolation from reality or responsibility. Remember GPL2 on the French site? Marc

Who knows what if any effect this poll will have, but it's a chance to have your say, so you may as well use it. The only problem really is that it's an anonymous poll, so I imagine some wiseass will vote a million times or something. Rebels are so predictable ;-) Malc.
It won't matter. They are going to do what they want to do regardless of what WE want anyway. Why waste the bits :) Larry "Jason Moyer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > This is surely just a big pricktease, but there's a poll on > www.sierra.de asking what we'd like to see now that the NR series is > ending with N2003. 6700 out of 9000 for GPL2 Wow, that's a statement from the community. Nice to see that Sierra hasn't scrapped the idea of GPL2 totally. Call me square, but I haven't touched another sim really seriously since I got GPL (and I tried all of them, I assume) JensSchumi --------------------------------------------- LWFF Ball Bearing conversion at: http://jensschumi.bravepages.com/ GPLRank: -14.82 Monsters of GPL: sub 95

Just my personal opinion, of coruse, and no point arguing it here since we've all rehashed this a million times. At the same time, I'd still rather play it than anything else. I mean, if you love cars and you love racing, how can you not love that era of motorsport? The driving is so pure without wings and electronics getting in the way, the tracks were the finest Europe and America had to offer, and the whole thing drips of the 60's, which was one of the 2 sexiest decades of the 20th century. Besides that, these are the cars that some of the greatest drivers in history raced, Clark, Stewart, Brabham, Hill, Amon, Gurney, etc. I dunno. My prime choice for a new sim would be a CART sim because the well has been dry for 8 years now, but I would be ecstatic for a historic F1, USAC, WRC, WSC, or even NASCAR sim that dealt with any time from the 1950-1980 'classic' era. I'm absolutely psyched for the 1977 F1 mod and the mid-80's GTP/Type C mod. Jason
