From what i have read the A7M266 (i have this board as well with a XP1600) will support a XP2100 no problems at all but is a bit iffy with the XP2200 and above. You must have the 1007 bios or you could try the 1008_02b beta bios. Using PC Probe the max CPU speed is 1800mhz with the 1007 Bios. Then I tried the 1008 beta dated aug-2002 and it jumped to 2200 mhz. As far as I know they never made a made a 266 bus CPU that fast that wasn't t thoroughbred core did they? Actually I think the fastest 266 bus speed CPU is the XP2400 running at 2000mhz. MadDAWG

There is a 2600 running at 266 also, not easy to find, it used to be listed at one of my suppliers but not anymore Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
Have you tried the 1008 beta Bios? If I can get up to a XP2400 I'll just keep what I got. This motherboard has been so darn good to me I'd really hate to give it up. I played around with a P4 2.4 ghz this weekend and was less than impressed. MadDAWG

Ah hah, the plot thickens, maybe my brain isn't fried at all and that I did manage to get a 2200 running on this MoBo at some point, could be CPU specific perhaps ? Cause the 2200 I have now won't run on that MoBo, CPU is tested OK and I tried the 1008_02b BIOS as well, went back to 1007 in the end as it's my work PC Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--

Yes, but only as long as it took to verify that my PC still wouldn't boot up, then went back to 1007 I agree, one of the best boards I've ever had, reminds me of the old ASUS P3B-F boards, but for the sake of the everlasting quest for speed it's now relegated to my work PC, gaming PC has a A7V8X (KT400), which works well enough but I kinda wish I had waited a little bit and bought an A7N8X (nForce2) instead, even though it's against my principles to own nVidia based stuff...:-) Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--

Asus info has not been very reliable on this. Apparently it's possible to run an XP2200 with the 1008 BIOS and a cranked up Vcore. YMMV. Check the AMD forum. Good luck, Leo
That was a XP2100 thoroughbred, not a palamino, right? Just what is suppose to be the differance between the two different cores? Is it just the cooler temps? Thanks MadDAWG
Well I think I'll just go with a XP2100 and play it safe. Its not as big of a jump as I'd like. The nice part is it won't cost me a ton, and if it squeaks out another year it will be fine. Maybe I'll put the difference toward a new video card. yeah that's the ticket! So is there gonna be any performance differance between the two cores, or is it just the cooler temps? Thanks MadDAWG

Not sure to be honest, but the 200 wasn't a "proper" TB anyways, it's the TB-A which is a cross between a TB and a Palo.....all according to my rapidly failing memory, every other CPU made on the TB core is TB-B If it was only the slightly cooler temps I doubt AMD would have given the whole range the once over, although simplified manufacturing might have something to do with it, but it's my understanding the the TB's are slightly faster than the Palo's as well, but how much.....if it was a whole lot I'm sure AMD would have made a big issue of it Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy http://www.theuspits.com "A man is only as old as the woman he feels........" --Groucho Marx--
