Complaints about the volume of RASCAR posts

Schooner complained that many RASCAR league posts addressed to individual drivers were cluttering the newsgroup. Others suggested email or a forum, while Larry, Jan Verschueren and David G Fisher argued RASCAR grew out of RAS and belonged there, and many recommended filtering. The disagreement escalated into later threads.

No offence but do we need a dozen posts to every RASCAR driver? Just seems to be cluttering up the group lately.
Yeah...can these guys not use a web forum or something... league reminders and stuff dont belong here at all "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:1gr2a.255186$[email hidden]... > No offence but do we need a dozen posts to every RASCAR driver? I have no problem with a few posts as it is RAS related but as it did last year it is getting out of hand again as it seems to be 50%+ of all the posts. "Dan_Leach" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:b2dg2g$1b73cl$[email hidden]...

The league I run in uses a private Yahoo group for this type of stuff. It works really well.... hint hint. Yeah the messages are kinda boring now, but wait till they start racing. Then all the name calling and finger pointer starts and then it gets interesting. :) MadDAWG

We've had this discussion before and we've already tried using a forum and a Yahoo group. The thing is the people who still frequent RAS actually _prefer_ communicating via a newsgroup, so that didn't really work. Basically: you're stuck with us. Notice, however, the big, bold RASCAR "flag" in the subject header, included to allow people who have no interest in the events to filter these messages out. Jan. =---

Yes that is fine but do we need 20 posts a day on it, all to individual drivers? It might have been born out of RAS but it is not all that RAS is about. Just looking for some balance for those of us not in RASCAR. "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:l7w2a.33066$[email hidden]...

I think you're at about 20 today yourself, eh? ;-) SB PS - it's true that one post, "attention ALL RASCAR drivers" probably would've worked as well. But thanks to John and the other guys for their work in with the series anyway. Rascar posts don't bug me, but for anyone who is bothered, it's easy to filter stuff out if you don't want to see it. I have to agree with Larry, the RASCAR group is for RAS drivers. I would suggest filtering the word RASCAR if it becomes that much of a problem. -- Michael K. T'was a joke - let me repeat: ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) On the other hand; maybe I'm missing something here, but I fail to see the problem. No doubt some have no interest in RASCAR; that's fine. I have no interest in many posts here, but don't question their legitimacy. The primary thing that differentiates RASCAR from typical leagues (that do maintain other forums) is that it's raison d'etre was to offer a non-league racing venue for the denizens of R.A.S.. Kind of hard to split the two, given that. And again; ten seconds with filtering tools and no one need ever see a dread RASCAR post again. No offense to you personally, but to EVERYONE who's complaining again.......use the filter in your newsgroup reader. Takes 10 seconds. RASCAR is not a true league. It's a way for people from r.a.s. to get together and race. Simple as that. We are using N2003 because it has the best online code, but any sim that has good online code could be used in the future. There are no points, or a championship to be won. No prizes. No bragging rights, sponsorship, etc. R.a.s. is about auto simulators, and supposedly the people who frequent this newsgroup are very serious and enthusiastic about auto sims. Online racing is a key ingredient that most of us hope will be included in all auto sims in the near future. It only makes sense then that we should get together and race each other, and then discuss those races here at r.a.s. David G Fisher

Sorry, but there's plenty of scope for creating such a group outside of newsgroup discussion. A few announcements to let people know about the other forum would be more than sufficient.
Don't worry in a few weeks it will die down to 2 or 3 threads a week. Just getting everything organized has necessitated the increase in RASCAR threads. And... as allways you can create a kill file if you don't want to see them. Brian Oster On Wed, 12 Feb 2003 09:06:17 -0400, "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote:

This is not ment to be a flame to anyone, but I can't believe the whining about the Rascar posts. I don't race anything but the Pappy sims, starting with the first, (offline because I don't believe I'm good enough) and don't have any interest in GPL or Formula 1 sims or any of their derivitives. I do enjoy reading the Rascar stuff to see what is going on and how everyone is doing. When I find something I don't want to read, I DON"T READ IT, I skip over it. I don't sit and bitch and moan that it is on here. Last time I looked I haven't been charged extra for the posts I don't want to read. My job is done here.
