I was resisting the urge to say...
"Bite me. I'll post what I want, when I want, where I want."
...but I think I hurt myself.
1) This is R.A.S.. The messages I post are for the guys that race in
R.A.S.CAR. I don't think I need to point out the correlation, unless
of course we're dealing with someone out there that's a REAL slow
learner.
2) I tried a combined message, but I got exactly TWO responses. If
you noticed that I sent out at least a dozen specific requests for
information, you can obviously see that the unified message had no
noticeable effect.
3) I don't use Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, ICU, UC-ME, or any other cutsie
little program. Since I'm one of the admins (not to mention the one
with the sortest fuse), nobody else will use it for RASCAR stuff
either.
4) I'm not here to be anyone's friend. I'm here to get everyone's
ducks lined up in a neat little row, not to make sure I haven't
defaced anyone's sensitivities. God knows I got a lot of other
computer stuff I haave to do that doesn't even impact RASCAR.
5) Stop whining and put RASCAR in your filter list.
6) If you want some say as to what goes on in and around RASCAR, join
the group. Until then, STFU.
Oh yeah...
7) Bite me. I'll post what I want, when I want, where I want.
Notable threadFlame warJohn Simmons responds angrily to RASCAR complaints
RASCAR organiser John Simmons replied to complaints about league posts by saying he would post what he wanted on RAS and others could filter. Schooner and others objected to his tone, while Jan Verschueren and others defended him. The thread became a heated exchange of insults about league posts, Usenet etiquette and web forums.

Thanks John. Glad to see you have full control of this group. All I was
asking for is if perhaps the posts could be kept under control but
apparently that is asking too much. Since you have a short fuse and don't
screw around I guess your the self proclaimed boss.
Good luck with the group and RASCAR, you will most likely need it.

Every league needs someone who's willing to be unpopular to keep things
running. I, for one, am glad John took/takes charge the way he did/does.
There would be no way for this thing to work without him.

I think everyone who didn't have the priviledge to run in IGPS is
finally geting a taste of what it was like in my other leagues.
I will also take this opportunity to remind all the whiney bitches
that the only IGPS stuff ever seen in this newsgroup was a few
announcements about league startup, and a few fond memries of the
good old days. Why? Because league announcments and admin for IGPS
would have been inappropriate because it wasn't about r.a.s. On the
other hand, RASCAR *is* about r.a.s.
For the record, if anyone wants to take over the reins of RASCAR from
Eldred, Ed, and myself, you can do as you please with it.
Darn, and I didn't see a single hand go up...

I got a better idea, why don't you stop whining and put every message but
RASCAR in your filter list?
You seem to think that you can say what you want where you want and how you
want, yet no one else can do that.
Myself, I don't care about the RASCAR posts, though I've always wondered why
you guys don't have your own board or try to create your own usenet group.
Does it take too much effort or is everyone too busy lining up ducks in
order to implement such a plan?
In the end if someone doesn't like the RASCAR posts, they could filter. But
the proper thing to do would be for you guys to try to create a new usenet
group or set up a board somewhere.
But if domination and snootiness is the name of your game, then I suppose
you'd keep on doing what your doing.

GPL is a simulator. RASCAR is a league. There's an important difference.
An occasional RASCAR post is OK, but 5 in a row is way out of line.
Discussing GPL provides information on simulators to interested readers, but
reporting who did what in a league is irrelevant to anyone not involved.
How would you like it if all of the Need For Speed guys suddenly announced
that their leagues are now open to RAS readers and started making 10 posts
per day. A little courtesy please.
Hi,
Well...i am a nascar person and usually don't mind posts about
whatever but, nothing personal, this RASCAR stuff is getting to be a
serious annoyance in this newsgroup. And yes...r.a.s...rascar...lovely
letter similarity but please start your own newsgroup...it's not that
hard to do.

1) 10 post per day is a drop in a buckett.
2) if they'd flag their post I could filter them if I wanted to.
Put it this way: at least 2/3rds of what is posted on RAS doesn't interest
me in the slightest. Now, I could get all technical and tweak my newsgroup
filter until I was blue in the face. On the other hand, just not downloading
messages whose subject doesn't ring my bell works awfully good for me.

Wow, that's the most astounding example of a complet lack of reading
comprehension that I've seen in a long time. I never said they
couldn't post what they wanted, I was merely asserting my right to do
so, and offering a workaround for anyone that doesn't like to see the
RAASCAR messages. Of course, that statement was probably a complete
waste on you, despite the plain and un-decorated description used.

Really?
If you mean your item (3). You do not need any special anything to
create, and use, a FREE Yahoo or MSN mailing list/group.
--------------
Really why should "rec.autos.simulators" be a RASCAR support forum when
numerous alternatives exist. Laziness? Sure you have the right to post
where you want for what you want. This is club correspondence and
rec.auto.simulators is not that club and therefore RASCAR specific club
correspondence is SPAM within the rec.autos.simulators newsgroup.

My friend, what I meant (if my problem is comprehension, which it isn't,
yours is interpretation) to say is that in your complaining about people
posting about all these RASCAR messages, which really belong somewhere else,
you are not allowing others to speak their mind, which comes down to you
denying others the right to post what they want and give their own opinions
on the issue.

I really don't undestand why those of you that are so put out by
RASCAR posts don't just put it in a kill filter. I mean really, in
the time it took you to post and bitch about it you could have set it
up.
It always amazes me when people take it upon themselves to bitch about
people posting ON TOPIC posts that they just happen not to care about.
I remember when CIV3 came out, and over on
comp.sys.ibm.games.strategic 90% of the posts were about.... CIV 3.
Of course several people had to bitch about that as well... what the
hell do you think these NG are for?

Whether you really lurk or not, you acted like one of these annoying "me
too" lurkers that seem to crawl out of the woodwork every time something
mildly controversial is said around here. That annoys the crap out of me.
Usually, I let it slide because after all there's no way to police what's
being posted here and getting upset about it just wasted energy, but, for
some reason, I just couldn't this time.
I truly am easy going most of the time, but sometimes I just snap and lash
out. I've done that since childhood. I'm 33 now and I'm done making excuses
for it, it's just the way I am. I think I contribute positively to this

I did, the most recent post for that screen name is dated May 13th last
year. There are more posts where willem occurs somewhere in the name, but it
would be non-sensical for me to assume these were all the same person.

Sorry of you seen it as whining and that we are a bunch
of bitches. All I asked was if you could maybe reduce the posts a bit out
of respect for others not involved in RASCAR and you went ballistic about it
calling people names and making threats. Sorry that respect to others is
not a concern for you. As for being here before many of us that is pretty
clear and always has been in this group, many people have given up posting
here or feel intimidated because of this type of thing but perhaps that is
the plan, to keep everyone in line and be the top dog.
Anyway like I said I have no issues with some RASCAR posts, just all the
individual ones seemed a bit much but again I don't see things changing so I
will no longer bring up the issue and will limit my postings as much as
possible and seek other forums to discuss sim matters. Best of luck and

I ignored it until the 20th post about it. You guys complaining
about it tripled the number of posts about RASCAR. Ain't that
ironic...
John .
Come On!
Do you have to shit on everyones nest ?
- i guess you do by your previous postings you have replyied with etc.
Btw who cares what the fuck you do for rascar !
and if you have other things to do ( then do them )
As for Filtering - we should'nt have to filter anything !
John, why cant you make a web page with its own FORUM'S ? Would make it
easier for all that are involved in Rascar ! ( or would this be too obvious
to be a better solution than all this posting etc ? )
As for who was here in the news groups first - umm another who gives a
shit ! (i would have thought all were welcome ! Also each should have
there own opinion , but when asked from not just one but more people here
( nicely about slowing the posts down ) would this too much to ask to be
polite to others here too ? Or is it all about YOU.

True, other forums are available. However, some people(such as myself) can
grab e-mail and newsgroup messages from here with one program, with an
automatic download. Having to go to a totally different forum doesn't always
work for people. I thought that marking posts with "RASCAR" was being
considerate for people who wanted to filter those messages. Have I
misunderstood?
Contrary to John<g> my mission is NOT to piss off everyone... I've tried to
find a solution that's fair and accessible to everyone. But as in MOST things,
you'll never be able to please everyone.
In other words, this is a no-win situation - someone will be upset at anything
that happens. :(

RAScar does have it's own newsgroup. That's the point. RASCAR was borne
out of rec.autos.simulators.
It really is that simple.

I'm spending much less time here nowadays. There are something about usenets
rec.* forums and it's general attitude, which I don't like.
I don't know why, but in the webforums people seems less elite, and much
more polite.
Maybe it's the smiley gif's that improves the tone?
This is after all my free time, and I don't want to spend it arguing. :-)

last year's levels no doubt. What's all the fuss about?

Keep this thread going guys. Its very entertaining. Its been a while since

That won't work due to the nature of news servers. Threads could
drop off in a matter of hours. It's not like web-based BBS's...
Anyway, the point is fairly moot for the reasons I (and others) have

Actually, no - it only seems more polite because most BBS's are
monitored and contolled by a small group of thought police.
Everything is watered-down and sugar-coated to the point that if you
held everyone's personality up to the light, they'd all be
transparent.
You might think that's fun, but I kind of enjoy the periodic anarchy
that overwhelms usenet once in a while. As long as you're
sufficiently self-depricating, everything remains cool, albeit on the
edge of chaos.

It was not spamming. It was an attempt to get members attention
because they ignored the all-for-one version of the same message
posted earlier this week. And you know what? It worked. Nearly
everyone has responded with their Sierra ID.

Are you holding a grudge against a moderator?
Do you really think a persons personality is the ability to fight verbally?
The moderators are there to prevent guys from driving in the wrong
direction, and restrict wreckers ability to ruin for others.

IMO, I didn't think the RASCAR posts were out of line, but John is
