I saw on bhmotorsports.com that EA is releasing a new F1 sim using
their 99/00/01/02 licenses. Anyone know if this is a new ISI product
with possibly (hopefully) a new engine or any other details?
Jason
Flame warEA's F1 Career Challenge announced
Jason Moyer asked whether EA's new F1 sim using its 1999 to 2002 licences was a new ISI product. It turned out to be F1 Career Challenge, planned for consoles and PC in April 2003, with ISI handling the PC version. Douglas Ellison mocked ISI's engine, leading to an insult exchange with Joe Saxon and others, including a side argument over the Racing Legends project.
Automated summary.

LMFAO !!!!!
They've 'evolved' their engine since F1 2000 to 2000 CS, to 2001, to 2002,
to their Nascar line, and then on to this.
Netcode will still be arse, gfx a bit inefficient, controller setup still
troublesome for some, physics a little questionable in places, tracks
inaccurate.
Doug
Why are you "LMFAO"?
ISI did a NASCAR line? You don't even know what the hell you are talking
about. Did you bother to go read the article the guy was posting about? EA
used the ISI engine for a NASCAR game, but ISI didn't do one. Also, F12002's
physics may not be perfect, but it's the best F1 sim out there. People with
proper computers and controllers have no problem with the "gfx a bit
inefficient, controller setup still troublesome for some"
Are you still Laughing your ass off?

Even more now.
Doug
figured that's all you'd come up with.
A guy asks a legit question and you try to make him look stupid. The only
one you made look stupid is yourself. Keep laughing.

probably have come about as a result of the increment involved in the Nascar

Indeed they do. Infact, I have very good controller and GFX performance
within F12k2. However - a huge percentage have problems with controllers.
The controller system within ISI's titles is totally pathetic. Compare to a
Papyrus title. I'm NOT a papy fan boy - BUT, their controller system is
simple, efficient, effective, works first time every time. Ash McConnell's
just about the only other chap to have come close - and perhaps NetKar as
well - but ISI are doing as well with their controller setup code as they
are with their Netcode. It's basically - funny.
To suggest otherwise is chronic ignornace, stupidity, or lying. Take your
pick.

Nope, it appears to be console only. The Xbox sites have a post similar to
the one on BHMotorsports, but BHMotorsports left out this important line:
F1 Career Challenge* - the first major innovation in FORMULA ONE games for
many years, will ship in April for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment
system, the Xbox video game system by Microsoft and the Nintendo GameCube.

Oh dearey me.
Confusing facts for 'crap'
Confusing suggesting that ISI's next F1 title will be nothing spectacularly
different to what has gone before with "being a dick"
And confusing me for someone who really cares WHAT you think.
Doug
Well the las t line of the BHMS article reads as follows "F1 Career
Challenge for PC is scheduled to ship in April 2003."
So, unless they are wrong, it looks to be a PC title as well. Kind of a
crafty way to make a new game and not have
to pay a licensing fee. I guess some people think ISI/F12xxx series sucks,
but I think it's great! It's physics are
OK by me. It's not 1967 in those games.

So let me get this straight, this will be the 4th F1 sim that EA has
released in the time that it's taken the West brothers to hand out
business cards at an auto show six months ago? ISI must not spend
enough time writing, and rewriting, and rewriting their physics engine.

well joe
I'll wait and see the product to decide if it's bad or good but for ALL the
existing EA F1 games the controller dead zone has been a SERIOUS problem,
F12001 was UNPLAYABLE with my ACTLABS Force RS because of this, it's better
in F12002 but still WAY behing GPL for example....

what
Because when Doug doesn't have the answer he changes the subject. ;0)
It's ironic that he mocks ISI for creating an ever improving simulation
(admittedly with some nagging issues) yet defends the vaporware brothers of
Urban Racing Legends.

I mock the nagging issues - not the F1 series. IN terms of modern F1 - F12k2
is as good as it gets. In many areas it's very sound - but in terms of
Netcode and Controller setup - they're being thrashed to a pulp by a 4 year
old title. Rather tragic isnt it?
As for defending West Bros - load of old toss - RL will defend itself
perfectly well on release. I will, however - put people straight were
they're spreading miss information, lies etc.
Doug
What lies and misinformation have been spread??

Some of the larger bullshit stories bandered around here
1) It's a complete hoax
2) It's WSC by another name
3) They'll charge extra for basic stuff like weather and damage
4) It'll only have one car and one track
5) They're hyping it up beyond whats feasable.
6) They'll never pull it off - they've not got the talent
Plenty of other shite gets talked about Chris and Tony, and their project as
well. All un founded, all un necessary.

Fair enough. Perhaps your original "LMFAO !!!!!" was a bit over the top
(and lack of any positive comments). It was hard to see your appreciation
for the underlying game given that intro.

I know you're rightfully defending RL against the lies (and sometimes
against reasonable doubts), I just couldn't resist the jab since you didn't
offer any positive points in your ISI posts so I was defending ISI.

That GPL is a 4 year old title - it's actually a 5 year old title. ;-D

Check the credits in the game. Also check their website:
http://www.imagespaceinc.com/
Tiburion did the console one, ISI did the PC one.
Jason
So even on there own site they say that they provided the engine and then
provide a link to the "DEVELOPER" Tiburon ?? What does that mean, why credit
another developer when your company did it?
