Looking at upgrading my monitor for GPL playing. Anyone know how well
a widescreen monitor like the Sony 24 inch GDM FW900 works with GPL.
As the racing view in GPL is kinda widescreen anyway I'm hoping that
it would fill the screen nicely? Anything I should be aware of? Would
the default drivers work for this? Anyone already used one with GPL?

Dont forget there is info displayed in the rest of the frame, your driving view is the only thing
that is 16:9 about it, its still designed for 4:3 displays..

I've used one of these at a previous job ( animation at the National Space
Centre - Leicester ) and it was quite glorious to work with
iirc - it would remember geometry settings for different resolutions - so
one could have it set at 1920 x 1200 ( I think ) to fit the desktop - then
pan/scan/stretch it at a GPL resolution ( 1280 x 1024 or similar ) to make
the pseudo 'letterbox' view fit the monitor better.
I dont think GPL has an option to run in OGL or D3D at res. other than 640,
800, 1024, 1280, and 1600 x their default 4:3ish values.

Small world. My sister (Victoria) worked there about three years ago.

That was around the time I was ( Dec '00 to March '03 )
For the whole nations centre of excellence on all thing space - worryingly,
I knew more about the subject, despite any formal education in the field,
than all but one of my colleagues - and she was a TV presenter!!

Doug,
Thanks for the info, sounds good. If I'm understanding you correctly,
you're saying that if I set the game play to 2048x1536 and then adjust
the monitor controls to stretch the edges out and the bars off the top
and bottom then the monitor will remember that each time it goes to
the driving view or full screen replay. But will go back to 'normal'
fit for the menus and windows?
If that is so ... then I think I might just have to get one.

i THINK it should - but you should try and get in touch with someone who's
used one more recently.
There may be a SOny monitors or Periphs. newsgroup etc
Best of luck ( I want one as well )
