Hi guys,
Finally I have my MOMO Racing Wheel - got it as a birthday present:)
Here is my question:
I know /saw that some/most rally drivers when they race they keep their
right foot on the gas pedal
and use left foot to brake.
Does anybody know what driving technique the F1/GT drivers use?
Or how do you drive?
Thanks in advance,
Igor
I use my right foot only.

I use Left Foot braking for most things.
If I fancy a laugh - I'll right foot brake - and use the clutch and
heel-and-toe in GPL - it's slower than left foot braking though.
Most (all?) modern F1 is left foot braking - I'd imagine using Semi
Automatic gearboxes as the do modern GT's use Left Foot braking as well

I right foot brake. However, if you can master it, left foot braking is
faster. You can get better balance that way.

Not sure what they do in real life.
I left foot brake.
Makes it easier to get a smooth transition from braking to accelerating.
I dont have a clutch so shifting down without one foot on the throttle to
match the rews would create some unwanted engine braking.

Drive sims with my MOMO just like an automatic street car, right foot -
go, left foot - whoa!

Most F1 drivers left foot brake, but not quite all. Rubens Barrichello
is a known right foot braker for instance. From what I've heard it was
Mika Hkkinen who was one of the first to use it in F1.
In lesser formulas right foot braking is much more common(no
computerized rev matching), and certainly in GT racing also. Now, you
_could_ left foot brake anyway, by blipping the throttle without using
clutch, but it can be hazardous... Anyhow, that's how Jaques
Villeneuve claims he drove in the 1993 Toyota Atlantic series. They
had H-pattern gearboxes.
In rallying left foot braking has been around since the 60's,
primarily with the FWD SAAB's. It's a fairly brutal affair where you
provoke oversteer by mashing both gas and brake at the same time to
lock up the rear wheels. The 4WD driving technique is very similar to
FWD, rather than RWD, so left foot braking followed suit. Well, when
Stig Blomquist started driving the Audi Quattro anyway. He drove it
like a FWD car rather than a RWD car, like most drivers which at the
time came from Lancia Stratos or Ford Escorts.
I use left foot braking mostly because my pedals, like most pedals
I've tried, really don't allow for right foot braking. For it to work
for me the brake pedal has to be a lot firmer with less travel than
most have, and when fully on the brake the I'd like to slide my foot
over to the gas. Not possible on any I've tried. The Redlines and TSW,
I don't know about. Some say it's possible...

uses his right. I remember that Williams modified the car for Alex
Zanardi to right foot brake when he was there too.
When I started using my left foot in GPL, it took a bit of getting used
to, but my times did improve.
