Sure wish Everyone in here would chime in on the favorite LCD they bought, and would buy again {keep em at or under $500 list prices though}. I'm kinda re up'n this from a thread below where PDOTSON bought a set of 3 19 inch monitors that he plans to use all at once, at close to 200 (plus ship) each. because I got past Xmas and can buy me one present. So, since I wont be doing 3, so Im kinda wanting one decent Wide panel, of 19 inches or bigger I think, might settle on a 2007fp or Wfp, from Dell, I dunno yet. I got to test an acer 1617 or was it 1716? With analog only input on it, but now I miss the colors that the monitor had compared to my dying CRT. Still I didn't think I would buy it for anything but here at work (no games, you know at work, lol). I like the spec's and looks of the gateway FPD2185w and the 2275 didn't seem to bad when I got to town to see them at best buy last week, (nearest best buy or anything like it is 100 miles. of course the desktop it was connected to in store had nothing to see them "play" anything. They would be near higher than I wanna spend either way. I do watch DVD's now sometimes at my desk but not much. My GFX card is a AGP 7800gs (oc) with 512 ram on it, if that helps with idea or info. HELP! I have a hard time pulling the trigger... Yeah, I hate that I am cheap but hate worse to save 50 bucks and be disappointed, as I can't undo it with more money later. anyone here got suggestions?

I bought the Dell 2007WFP a few months back and love it. 1680x1050 native res. I run GTR2, rF, GTL, NR2003 primarily and have no issues with any of them.

There seems to be a "lottery" about the 2007 models of the WFP especially, they changed the MFG'd screen from uh, um well the type of LCD panel used to make the panels, well read this... (copied from Anandtech website/forums... "Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP (panel lottery, PVA panel of poor quality). The S-IPS version belongs above the VX2025WM in the Multimedia section. Those who are willing to take the gamble and exchange until they get an S-IPS are welcome to, but because of this panel lottery it can't be recommended to the general public. The de-throning is extremely unfortunate because the S-IPS version is the flagship of 20" widescreen LCDs, second only to the NEC 20WMGX2. The PVA version doesn't even come close (it's bad even for PVA, you'd probably prefer a TN). " Yeah I Screwed around too long to try now, lol. over or near $600 (U.S.) for the NEC I would like to have... so Im still torn. so I dont know if Dell is on my list anymore. I have the Gateway FPD2185w and I've had no issues with it at all. Great for work and gaming. My only gripe is the warranty is only 1 year. -Larry "Plowboy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ORdkh.28014$[email hidden]...

No experience with the Dells. The Gateway has been fine for me. It's probably cheaper than it was when I got mine too. You should be able to see it hooked up at Best Buy. That's where I got mine. -Larry "Plowboy" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:9nGkh.25883$[email hidden]...

I've been using an NEC 20WGX2 for a while now and it's excellant, may replace it with an Asus MW221U 22" and 2ms @ 168081050. Andi. "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:GFKkh.22$[email hidden]...

Andi, sell me your NEC, :P I put off going to costco for a week... More information is needed by me, I hear that that NEC is really good for gaming (my main interest). Andi Cole enlightened us with:

I've owned three Gateway monitors in the past five or six years. None are currently working. Only one of these is an LCD, which failed (backlight problem, or something) after two years. It was an 18". My current LCD is a ViewSonic VX910. Nice monitor, and after over a year, no problems to report. I don't know about current Gateway LCDs, but past ones have been known to go bad, with this backlight (or whatever it's called) burning out. Costs 60 bills to replace the light: I just haven't gotten to fixing it yet. Alanb
according to a TV tech that I know, this is common in everything LCD, just FYI... higher prices for fixing TV's etc comes if the LCD monitor/tv/etc is one of those brands that has like mitsubishi build it and they EXCLUSIVELY sell them with like "gateway" stamped on them. Then the parts get not only tricky to get, but pricey. (unless yousend it in of course, but they charge more labor than my buddy ever does retail of his services) I have been trying to find info about Plasma TV's because they do or dont use backlights? longivity is what I keep trying to hear about, you just dont hear it talked about anymore, everyone is worried or marketing the 2% (aka hardly percievable) differences in picture quality instead of if the dang set will last more than a year before it dies. our old TV's run forever, least until a circuit dies in the tuner and crap like that mostly, but LCD? backlights seem to be high on death knell list. Alan Bernardo enlightened us with:
