Just a little tidbit I found from fooling around setting up my PC to my
HDTV. My kids love big screen Reader Rabbit.
Using powerstrip, I loaded a preset HD res (960 X 540 @ 60HZ) and forced it
to my monitor before hooking up to the TV.
Used my monitor V-setiings to "compress" the image into a 16:9 window on my
21" 4:3 monitor.
Then, during a "moment of clarity", ran 3d setup for nr2003, and *Voila!*
the new resolution was available as a selection. Ran setup and then the
test....
FANTASTIC! Nice, wide, natural looking FOV in cockpit mode. Replays were
also widescreen. All menus were centered 4:3, in-game views had significant
increase in "peripheral vision". The alt/ctl F seat setting was now locked,
but THIS is what I always wanted in cockpit view. The added FOV allows me to
see much more of the right front of the car.
Needless to say, Reader Rabbit got put on hold that afternoon. On my 55"
HDTV, the immersion was awesome. Gotta figure out a way to use my wheel from
the recliner!
If you wanted more FOV in cockpit mode, you can easily do this same
"letterboxing" on your 4:3 monitor.
