Report of a Microsoft CART PC game deal

A poster reported that CART's Chris Pook had hinted at a deal with Microsoft for a new PC CART game. Reactions were wary given Microsoft's CART Precision Racing, though Steve Blankenship noted parts of CPR were advanced. Posters recalled CPR developer Richard Harvey, whose recent death was mentioned, and argued over whether the newsgroup had driven him away.

Yeah, there was a lot about CPR that sucked. But there were also aspects of it that were state-of-the-art, some of which stand up well even today. MS wouldn't likely be the developer anyway, so the key to whether an MS-published CART product is decent or not would be the target market they choose, and the developer who gets the contract. If I were MS, I'd get someone with a proven platform, track record, and respected name who could produce quality product quickly and cheaply. Hmmm, those Papy guys don't have anything useful to do these days... ;-) SB "straiton" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:1048602767.1015@teuthos... > Have u tried Microsoft's Cart Precision Racing. It's not even ajoke.Pitiful.

To a non-simmer. Any program with flying wwII planes or racin' cars or shooting up Aliens all fall under the category of 'game.' WE know differently...but then...WE 'ARE' different. dave henrie
Dave, One would hope that the powers to be at Microsoft still remember all those negative reviews and comments about CPR. One would think that if they're ready to try it again, that they now know the right direction to take. Are any of the current MS game division employees still the same from waaaay back when CPR was released? :-( When the hell was CPR released? I don't even remember Richard Harvey... I remember Ed Martin talking about Nascar Heat, though. Just another wuss who couldn't handle the reality of a sim community. <g> "They" (the marketing types trying to plug their product) are all the same... underestimate what it takes to produce something being worthy of being labelled "a sim". Once the requirements become apparent (notably in the controller configuration department) they bid a hasty retreat. Cowards... the lot of them. Kudos to Bugbear for sticking to their title, no matter what. That said, I quite liked CPR. AI was more than a bit suspect, but, on non-FF wheels, the magic was there. I wouldn't mind MS having another crack at it. As long as they realise that a title that tries to be both a game and a sim never works. Jan. =---

Drive Pro and you will learn a lot. Complain about bumps and the Cleveland track all you want, it still drives well on pro with a proper setup. Teaches you throttle control, which can always help drop that GPL handicap. JB

Because if they don't, we'll end up with a pathetic console port like their recent rally title (which has great graphics, but is otherwise so horrid I can't even remember the actual name of it). If memory serves me correct it was a post by Alison Hines that finally sent dave from the cart team packing. Hardly someone I would call a rude fucking prick. Todd.
