Hi all I'm a newbie to VROC/GPL racing and for some reason I'm having trouble with my framerates when online. When racing offline I get 36fps nearly all the time, which is great. However, online it seems to fall away quite significantly. My hardware is as follows: Athlon 1.3GHz 256MB RAM ATi Radeon 8500 DirectX 8.1 USR 56k External Serial Modem (definitely *not* a WinModem) Windows XP The ping times to the servers I've been playing about with are ok (~150-180) too. Any ideas/tweaks that can sort this out?? Many thanks! Andrew

There seem to be two main reasons for a drop in framerate online, one of which will be the modem, and you've obviously done a bit of research & seen that winmodems don't really cut it, the other I find is the quality bars in the top right corner. They are very useful, but on certain cards can really eat into your framerate. To disable them, click to join a race in vroc, but don't just click enter straight away. The dialogue box where you choose your car/class etc has several other options on the other tabs, one of which is to disable quality meters. Give it a try either way. On my Gf4 it makes no difference so I leave them on. My old Kyro2 needed to have them disabled, and you may do too. You could also try different vid card/sound card drivers, and make sure your 4 in 1 drivers are up to date if you have a VIA based motherboard. Malc.

I had a similar problem with very bad stuttering online (not sure if this is your problem) and got rid of it by removing those red meter bars in the top right of the screen. When you click on join race there will be an 'advanced' tab. You can deselect the 'enable performance and quality meters' box. Hope this helps. Darius

Thanks to you and the others that suggested this tip. Works a treat. Get rid of the bars and it's 36fps all the way, wahooo! :) Andrew
