$10 at my local EB, new. And that's Cdn $!! Still not sure if it's worth that much given what I remember of the reaction here. Any honest/thorough reviews of it out there on the Web? You just have to look in the right places and ask the right questions.
What's with this steering response problem with ported games anyways??? I'm wondering if developers, after spending a decent amount of time tweaking it like mad to make it driveable and psuedo realistic while using a little analog stick on a joypad, if they just directly map that stick's axis to a steering wheel's movement and call it a day? You'd think that one of the more important parts of porting a game to a console is to port the controls properly.. re configuring whatever weird response curvers were tailored to a little stick to feel right with a wheel... Pro race driver, i'm looking at you... Mike http://mikebeauchamp.com "callsignviper" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:r%Lla.421155$L1.120326@sccrnsc02...

For the PC it's pretty lame, but for the PS2, it's a great game! Realtime weather effects, and interactive pit stops, choose type of tire, downforce, fuel load, etc, ok graphics, nothing special, but excellent control (using the PS2 gamepad). I won't be buying a console, ever, until they make a more ergonomically-useful input device. Gamepads almost universally suck (and there ARE wheels for consoles, BTW), and I can't understand why Darwinian selection hasn't resulted in something better... >shrug< -- ============================================ Reach heaven far too high ============================================
I have played both the Dreamcast and the PC versions. In my opinion, the PC version appears identical to the DC version except for the addition of Road Atlanta. The steering problems are not unique to the PC version, it is just as bad using a wheel on the DC. All the negative things you have heard are correct. If you are expecting GPL, don't buy it. If you just want to have some *arcade* racing fun every now and then when you need a break from GPL, then in my opinion, yes, it is worth ten bucks. Good graphics, good weather effects, good replays, A.I. can be fun to race, and the career mode can be a fun way to kill time. BAD steering and no decent cockpit view are the biggest drawbacks for me. -Garth
You can actually race for 24 hours if you'd like to. That being said you've had the best feature of the game. I think the other people in this thread already explained it all. It is an arcade style game, no realism with the worst steering ever and lousy sound. But I can imagine that the average 10 year old kid has a field day racing this on its console/gamepad.
