1 - I was VERY surprised how quickly the lead draft caught up to the lappers. I was even more surprised to see them slice through us like we weren't even THERE... 2 - Driving around Jan is an adventure. Not because of his driving, I'd trust him on my bumper all day. Jan, I worry about driving near you because your car keeps blinking out. When the car in front of you at 180+mph disappears for up to 3 seconds at a time, it doesn't do much for your mental health. I was always scared to make a move, and I suspect that's what also slowed up DGF and JS. I'd made it past you, but then got bogged down by Sean After I got caught up in the wreck, my top speed was only 145mph. I parked it, rather than become an obstacle every 3-5 laps... Grrr... Maybe I should just park it for the rest of the season. My accident-avoidance skills don't seem to be as good as they used to be. I keep getting caught in other people's wrecks...sigh. That being said, I'm not sure my opinion means one damn iota to you. However, I am going to give it. My advice to you is not simply give up and quit. Judging from seeing several racers in reality, I can attest that by only getting more seat-time will your knowledge and reaction times get better. I don't want to put you down, but getting caught up in other peoples wrecks is a two-fold deal. First, there's a factor of luck. The second being your skills. You can control the second. If you see warp in a online race, back off and/or take a different line. A wreck? Slow down and/or get down in the grass if you have to. Real drivers do it, and there's no embarassment if you or anyone else does. Even the best drivers have bad days and bad streaks. You're not excluded. Just pick up, apply what you've learned and go back out next week and try your damnest to race cleanly and quickly. If that doesn't help, then look at it this way: At least online, you're not tearing up a $100+k machine AND you don't have to apologize to your sponsors. We're always gonna have problems with warp, until everyone has broadband. It's just part of the game and can't be helped. If you love racing, man, then I'd advise you to get back into your saddle. I'm sure your fellow drivers wouldn't want to race without you. BTW: Thank you for supporting these group of drivers. Without you, or them without you, RASCAR wouldn't exist. I hope you get to understand that you're part of a team, and you should have the driver and hosting/logistical support of everyone who runs in the "league". Vice versa of that, as well. -Will

I know you were in the lead, Mike. I was just surprised at how easy you made it look going through a 4-5 car 'scrum'... At one point, somebody made it 3-wide, so I backed out. A bit scary, I'd say. I already *do* slow down or take to the grass. I've had several times where I damn near STOPPED on the track so as not to be involved. It's not like I just plow through the wreck balls-out... As far as dealing with a warping car, that's why I was stuck behind Jan for so long. If I could have gotten by, I could have pulled away. That's happened several times this season. I've simply been afraid to pass. Most of these tracks only have one fast line through the turns. If the warping car is TAKING that line, do you just stay behind him for the rest of the race? I have confidence in my skills, but that doesn't help you with a car that has a cloaking device... You didn't seem to benefit from cars drafting you, even when Bryan and Eldred were directly behind you (and not warping), I was getting more help from you, 3 carlenghts ahead, than you were getting from them. > > <snip> > > That wreck was partialy my fault. That was a situation which, IMO, had no potential for going right in the online environment. Had we been caught while up to speed, maybe, but with us tripping over Sean there was no way that was going to remain incident free. > > <snip> > I was eliminated. The motor was gone. That motor damage stuff is bad karma, but it's also a powerfull deterrent with regard to dumb moves. Mine was gone too, thanks to wonky connection and slow reaction on my part. > No Eldred. Indeed... if you show no indication of wanting to pass I can't let you go. For the hint to be strong enough for you I'd have to slow too much, possibly allowing drivers I don't want ahead or around me too close. You don't have to hit me (please don't), but if you don't knock I can't open the door, sorry. > Most of these tracks only have one fast line through the > turns. RASCAR is now scheduled at an unfortunate time with regard to internet conditions over here. Last night was terrible again... I actually had a few clock smashes and cars winking out on my side. Most of the time though, it's a one way deal. I.e. I can keep an eye on you guys. I can see what you're doing the whole time and I'll make sure I don't involve you in anything. You just gotta trust me and go for the move. If it's not the last few laps I won't make a fuss, even if I'm not aware I'm warping. Jan. =---

Closing speed was indeed surprising... I thought I might make it around Sean before we were run over, but suddenly they were there. Just kept it low, but failed to spot the #31 when I wanted to move back up the racetrack... close call there.

That was an exercise in frustration, true. I'd seen John ding the wall and being shot out the back of the lead draft, as I was about to lose the benefit as well I decided not to pass him and try to draft back up. There were two problems with this strategy: 1) John, either through me warping or damage he received (I think it's the latter because he didn't seem to benifit much from having non-warping cars behind him either) wasn't getting a benifit from me being behind him and 2) he wasn't working the bottom of the racetrack. As my connection was going through a really rough patch I didn't dare pass because it would be too hard for him to follow me closely. All the while the leaders were running at least 5mph faster than us, so eventually, when having 3 cars behind John didn't seem to bring him any benefit I decided to pass hoping you and Bryan would follow suit and I could cycle around to the back. You didn't and also failed to get some speed into John. Then we got up to DGF and I kept behind him hoping I could boost his speed enough for him to drop ahead of your train and lead. This didn't work either and put John back in the lead... <sigh> Dave then proceded to try and draft John up passed you and, when that didn't work, *finally* switched and drafted you up past John. Now we're cooking... speeds are back up above 185mph at last and maybe we can stay on the lead lap untill the leaders have to break up to pit. Then you go and trip over Sean and leave me hanging.... aaargh!! >:-/ Also, when you get into a single file draft: WORK THE BOTTOM!! -There's absolutely no need to use the whole track even if you're running 197mph. Middle lane out of the tri-oval at worst. And there's me thinking I'm the inexperienced superspeedway racer going into this... sheesh!! ;-) > After I got caught up in the wreck, my top speed was only > 145mph. We may be talking about the same situation, but I experienced something similar. After about 10 laps or so, when Dave got persueded up into the wall I had to brake to avoid both cars. Because of this I lost the lead draft of which there was about 5 or 6 of us and we were hauling ass and mowin' em down too. I was all by myself for several laps until the second draft pack of about 4 cars caught me. Of course they blew by me like I was standing still, but I was able to snag onto the back of the draft with them. I ran around with them at the tail of this pack for about 10 laps, and it was driving me nuts. We were dropping to like 185 in the corners, and we were losing .5 to 1 second a lap to the lead pack. This was when I asked if those guys were damaged. I didn't get an answer, so I don't know if they were or not. I finally had enough, and though I would have prefered to just stay in line and catch up to the lead draft, it wasn't gonna happen so I started passing the other 4 cars. I think I passed all of them in 1 lap. From that point, with me in front of the pack, we stayed up to around 192 in the corners and we stopped bleeding time off to the lead pack, and in fact picked up a second or so before a yellow FINALLY came out (what was up with that? you couldn't buy a yellow that race) and everything was back to normal. -Larry "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > "Jan Verschueren" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:Btyoa.53966$[email hidden]... > > You didn't and also failed to get some speed into John. > > Then we got up to DGF and I kept behind him hoping I could boost hisspeed

You were doing that at the same time I was involved in the situation below. When I got pushed into the wall I just tried to catch on to a pack but it wasn't easy as everyone was so much faster. By the time I did, the group of guys you and I were knocked out of were not to far behind me. When they caught up, I made sure to jump on Mike's bumber and didn't let go because I was determined to have a shot at getting my lap back if a yellow came out. When the skirmish happened behind me (almost took me out), Mike was nice enough to let me by at the line and I got my lap back. Of course it all went down the drain for me later. :-) Nice wins you've had lately.
