Uh, great car, but why do I get a "tent-like" cover over the cockpit
when replaying in rollbar view?

Camera glitch on the new GPLEA Lotus
Samuel Senior asked why replays of the new GPLEA Lotus showed a tent-like shape in the roll bar view. It was the edge of the driver's helmet because the camera file was unchanged, and Kevin Clark offered a fixed file. The thread turned into jokes about driving from the cockpit and Monty Python quotes.

Rollbar view???? Bite your tongue blasphemer! You are hereby ordered to
pry the F10 key off your keyboard and incinerate it in your backyard
grill, never to be seen again. ;-)

I think that the tent-like cover is caused because the rollbar camera is too
close to drivers helmet and shows part of the helmet actually.

The lotus.cam file has not been changed from the standard one, the 'tent' is
as Pasi describes.
You can get plenty of alternate lotus.cam files in the various updates
sections at racesimcentral, Kev Clarke does some particularly good ones.
You just put the file in your cars67\lotus folder.

Chapter One Verse 17-19
Thou Shalt NOT drive whilst floating above thine car. Neither shouldst
thou drive whilst hanging onto a rollbar. Driving whilst surfing on the
nose of the car is right out!
Doesn't say anything about replays. I'll let him slide, but with a
warning. Don't delve too deeply into the dark arts. You may become

It's the edge of the helmet polygon.
Any cam file from any other car (as long as its not the default view)
will give you views from else where as long as you rename it lotus.cam
or email me at [email hidden] and I'll send you a tweaked file
which moves the rollbar cam about 10cm further forward and misses that
polygon.

Going to extremes in either direction can be detrimental ;-)
I tend to find it difficult to accurately work out where the other cars are
when I'm in traffic, so I often switch out to the F10 view & back to check
how close I am to a car beside me. It takes practice otherwise it can be
disorienting, but it's a trade off either way. In the cockpit you get a
better feel for the road ahead, particularly over crests, but your
peripheral vision is very limited compared to real life (LFS is much better
in this respect imo) so to compensate for the lack of peripheral vision, I
use the F10 view briefly, usually mid-corner to see to either side. For
short periods the sound of the car behind you is enough to help compensate
for the lack of mirrors, but you can't stay in F10 view for very long in a
race imo.
I race in one league (the Brit League) that only allows the cockpit view,
and I'm no slower or faster, but I tend to take less risks in traffic so in
that respect sticking to only one view slows me down.

GALAHAD: Oh, yeah?
ROBIN: You mangy scots git!
TIM: I'm warning you!
ROBIN: What's he do, nibble your bum?
TIM: He's got huge, sharp-- eh-- he can leap about-- look at the bones!

That rabbit's dynamite.
ROBIN: Would it help to confuse it if we run away more?
ARTHUR: Oh, shut up and go and change your armor.
GALAHAD: Let us taunt it! It may become so cross that it will make a

ARTHUR: Like what?
GALAHAD: Well... ooh.
LAUNCELOT: Have we got bows?
ARTHUR: No.

The difference is a lack of peripheral vision and seat of the pants
feel. Some sims (like GPL) in-car works fine for me, but in others I
use chase view to get a better "feel" for what the car is doing and
maintaing situational awareness.
