Seems as tho the new threads each day are dropping? I remember when there
were at least 3 or 4 times more than what there is now... on the 23rd i see
only 6 or 7 or is that my server?
Cool Hand Luke
Is the newsgroup getting quieter?
Luke Phillips noticed fewer new threads each day. Others joked about starting old flame topics to revive it, and suggested that with GPL, F1 2002 and NR2003 well established there was less to argue about, and that summer usually brings a lull. John Bodin promoted his Total Immersion Racing patches.

Easily remedied Luke! Just start a new thread with the subjects
"GPL is Pure Arcade"
"West Racing Releases (not!)"
"GPL 2 announced" (or a variant, "GPL2 beta discovered")
or
"NASCAR is for Wussies Who Cannae Turn Right"
will fix this problem in no time, any time ;)
Regards, Ruud
How about....
"RASCAR races should be open setups"
and...
"Who are the better drivers, Nascar Winston Cup or F1?"

Newsgroups go by cycles. It's mathematically proven.

Beating some F1 and Rallye drivers in the process. Not bad for a couple
of fellows with zero dirt experience.

Having said that what is on the drawing boards for new racing games.
Nascar is well catered for..
F1 is well catered for
Aussy V8's still need better.
General saloon cars ???
Japanese High performance thats not a playstation throw over.
Lemans style. ?????
What about Cart/Champ/Indy... sadly lacking
Anything else.
2 Cents spent

I think Nigel's right. With F12002, GPL, NR2003 all sorted, there isn't much
left for us to argue about - for the moment anyway.
Yes there is
No there isn't
yes there is............

Prove it... and without division by zero this time.

What has then been to talk about? Not to mention here in North America its
starting to warm up so some of us are actually leaving our computers and
going outside.

Given the nature of the event, Johnson's Mickey Thompson stadium off
road experience probably came in handy.
Gordon also had years of USAC experience.
So, zero probably isn't the best term. :)

Hey, I've been trying to start an argument or spur some discussion by
talking about Total Immersion Racing -- I've produced a couple of
patches to help make it more sim-like, and despite the console
interface screens, I really think there's a decent sim lurking in
there somewhere.
Discuss amongst yourselves, argue as necessary.

I've always felt that
there is something quite good lurking somewhere in TIR, and although the
'sticky grass patch' and the sound patch help a little, I still can't take
it too seriously for various reasons including:
1) not being able to spin the car, in fact not really being able to lose
control at all
2) no damage
3) no engine blow-ups - no matter how hard I try
4) opposition too easy
4) very poor mirror quality
5) very irritating console type menus.
Any help with any of these?

Oh, I will... don't worry. <g>
Jan.

We can DEFINITELY take care of the spinning issue -- there are some
"hardcore" physics tweaks that can be easily implemented, and I plan
on releasing a "hardcore" patch to enable people to install these
tweaks using a simple Windows-style installer.
The damage and engine blow-up issues are problematic -- I don't know
if there's any way to enable damage of any type (either visible or
unseen), but Razorworks may be releasing some editing info to the TIR
community, so we MAY eventually be able to unlock things like engine
damage. Don't hold your breath on this one, though -- this may be the
game's worst shortcoming in the long run.
:-(
There is an AI file available at Blackhole Motorsports that cranks up
the AI's performance -- this makes the AI VERY tough in some
instances. I'm trying to balance this with the AI behavior tweaks
that I'm working on . . . ultimately, the AI may turn out to be pretty
decent (as far as AI goes, anyway).
I can't do much about the mirrors or the console-style menus at the
moment, unfortunately. We MAY eventually be able to tweak the mirror
resolution once we're able to unlock/unpack some of the game's system
files, but I think we're stuck with the menus as they currently are.
TIR will never replace GTR2002 as the ultimate hardcore GT sim, but
it's an ideal successor for Viper Racing and SCGT in sim racing's
"second tier" of realism (physics-wise, anyway). If/when we're able
to add cars and tracks, I could see it becoming an ideal platform for
oddball mods with decent levels of realism, a la NASCAR Heat.
