View this article only Newsgroups: alt.firefighters Date: 2003-01-09 17:26:11 PST Did you miss me??? I know you did - don't deny it! You all missed me, even Brian :) Just wanted to say "howdy" from sunny Florida (I think it got up to 72 here today). Hope everybody had a great Christmas and that your new year is off to a good start. I am now officially firefighter-less. My bro, the bat chief, retired December 9. Now, for the first time ever, as far back as my dad's family can remember, there is nobody in our family serving actively in the fire service :( I feel lost and kinda woozy. My son says no way is he going to be a firefighter (he's not even remotely interested). But! Be still my heart! My daughter the other day was asking all about what it takes to be a firefighter, what the pay & benefits are like, etc. So, there's hope!!! She's very athletic plus she has Affirmative Action on her side! She can't lose!! Anyway, keep your fingers crossed. By the way, I had a friend of mine make a beautiful plaque for my bro for a retirement gift. It is a 5 x 7 wood carving of the now "famous" flag-raising picture at the WTC. It is mounted next to a printed speech from some fire chief from FDNY from 1860's or something or other about what it is to be a firefighter. The "watermark" on the speech is the seal of the Panama City Fire Department. My friend did an absolutely beautiful job of it! I can't wait to see my bro's face when I give it to him. Anyway, that's all the news from Lake Woebegone for now. I won't get to come to the groups much - just not enough hours in the day right now - but I would LOVE for y'all to drop me e-mails all along so I can keep up with what's going on, especially if something juicy happens in the NG :) Blessings! View this article only Newsgroups: alt.firefighters Date: 2003-01-09 18:25:05 PST Val: What did you miss? Let's see, not too much: Rudy Giuliani has been handing out Smallpox vaccinations with thimerisol to fire fighters who will not be able to collect their full Social Security benefit. Meanwhile, unarmed British citizens riding around on a 1965 Dodge Power Wagon http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1876058417 have been spotted jumping out of high rise buildings with parachutes and controlled decent cables. Of course, this was occurring while Angel set up a web site to get money sent to her to pay off her bills and GooonyGoooGooos switched to a 48 hour on, 48 hour off shift for trolling newsgroups. In other words, everything is normal. Glad you are back. ----- Ken Hanks Asst. Both. I got all sorts of stuff in the kill-file automatically deleting everything. It's remarkable that people propagate this stuff. No topical material, not even lightbar threads anymore. It's sad though normally a off topic posting happens once or twice a week. You're right there hasn't been an on topic posting in a while. It's sad that was the first newsgroup I subscribed to. -- Jay Hellmann Web Page: http://www.thelunatick.com Carpe Corpus! Life's a journey not a destination Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.
