Yes, it's really too bad the AI suck so bad at Riverside. It is a fun track.

Yes, and THANKS, Don, for posting all those great nostalgic snapshots from

I'll agree with you here, and it's even worse with TC on. As you know,
if a driver just uses up a little too much track there, he'll be
fighting the car. It's a pain in the ass when you're trying to get back
onto the racing surface, too. Yet, it's a easy track for a person to
learn the braking points. Let's not talk about AI piling up and you've
got nowhere to go except in the sand, or a AI decides to send you on a
helicopter ride. ;)
On the other hand, this is one of the few tracks where I feel really
comfortable using the in-car camera instead of the roof camera. I can't
explain it, but I can negotiate the corners better in-car.

It looks like dirt, but don't let that fool ya. It's sand all of the
way. Sticky, horrible sand. It's bad enough to take me at /least/ 10-20
seconds just getting out of the stuff. It's one of them deals where you
have to run the engine up to 9000 RPM's just to get going, then shift up
to second to get a little forward speed. Then rinse and repeat every
time you go to the beach. But the track is like, well, a track. I
haven't noticed any dust clouds to obscure my vision in the sim.
As for just getting two tires down there, it'll bog you down big time.
The car will want to slow down while you're cranking the wheel hard
right to just get out of it. Fun fun fun!
I can understand the reasoning for having sand, though, for driver
safety. But it's still a big pain in the ass. :)

Yeah, it's too bad someone can't fix the sticky sand effect there. Let me
assure you, in real life there was no sand at RIR. It was hard packed desert
dirt. Many was the time I watched Richard Petty straightline the esses and
never lose a place. Left a helluva dust cloud though ;-)
