Alex Zanardi returns to a Champ Car at Lausitz
Posters celebrated Alex Zanardi driving a hand-controlled Champ Car at Lausitz, where he finished the laps he had left uncompleted at the time of his 2001 crash. His lap speed of nearly 193 mph would have qualified him in the top ten. The thread drifted into plans for attending Le Mans.

The good news: I am no longer looking for a better quality hand controlled
FF wheel then my PS2 Logitech Driving Force.
The bad news: I want Zanardi's new Champ car. ;o)

Talk about a role model. He, and people like Christopher Reeves, are really
some one to admire.

He already proved that a while back with his pass at Laguna Seca. :)

Alex is one HELL of a guy, but he was even before his accident, some of
the best racing I've seen, ever, included him and a red Champ car

Hot damn, that's absolutely awesome.
I tell ya...race drivers NEVER retire. They always find a way back into the

Cool. (Come to think of it, seems he's the only man on earth who can
race full speed whilst being completely legless ;)
And that's just the beginning - he could actually work on getting a
GPLRank now! ;)

Complete hero.
I read on ceefax that he was up in the 190mph bracket - which is WAY within
a 107% type ballpark
Big balls - big heart - a model of triumph over adversity

192.9 mph, which would be good enough for 10th in qualifying!

Holy shit, someone needs to give the man a ride!!!!
How much seat time has he had with hand controls? And is the car modded in
any way other than for the controls?

While technically not legless, Evan Evans has done quite well for himself
racing offroad using hand controls - he was paralyzed in a motorcycle
accident in 1989.

It's even better than that Doug!
According to Autosport... he's last lap would have put him *5th* on this
years German 500 grid!
Man - that boy got balls!

Classy answer as well about the spec. of the car he was driving:
"So the car was 100% legal, right?
"I don't know what kind of answer I can give you because even if I say yes
(the car was entirely legal), you still will have your opinion. My car did
not go through technical inspection, so we could have done anything we
wanted. I'm very proud of the job I did. Let's put it that way. Then is up
to you to think what you want."
There is no better way to answer that question. "Was it legal?" "Does it
matter?"

But he had a higher boost setting on his engine, so his car would
never pass tech inspection :)

I'm not sure what to do Olav... there's been some talk about some of the
guys going down there... but nothing certain yet...
The race/field look pretty boring this year so I'm not sure if it's worth
the trip... Bentley look so set to win - as their the only ones with a
budget big enough for the task.... but then again anything can happpen
(remember how things went for Toyota, Nissan and Merc. :-)
You got any plans to go?
What about the Crossley's - heard anything from them?
I've lost their mail-addresses and have not been able to get in touch with
them for ages... :o(

I have the intentions, and had slight communications with Doc about
it. But of course, if you're not going, I have to reconsider doing the
bus thing and rather fly there. After last years washout, Doc is set
to return better than ever, so I think it's a bad idea to miss it. I
think Matt is going too ?

He did about 40 laps earlier in the week. They SAID the car was a
perfectly legal 2003 spec ride but it never went through tech inspection.
So who knows....

I talked to Matt at Rudskogen on Sunday (1st round to the Nordic Thunder
Series) and he told me he wasn't keen to go at all.. Unless i'm mistaken,
we're close to a month away from the event itself.. and when nothings been
"set in stone" by now - i seriously doubt we'll go.

Allright. Hope you guys reconsider :) Cheked yesterday and found out
that a round trip to paris was only 2000, so flying might actually
reduce costs since I don't have to drive to Halden...
