I went out and treated myself to a new 9700Pro to celebrate my new job, and while I've been mostly blown away by the perfomance of the card, I do have a problem with F12k2/GTR. My system is an AMD XP2100+, MSI KT3-Ultra MB, 512mb DDR, SB Live. I run F12k2 under XP using the Omega drivers based on the 3.4 Cats. I did have a Ti4200 in my system, so when I upgraded my settings carried over after I ran 3Dconfig to fix the drivers. I also ran RegCleaner to clear out any old nVidia entries first. My in-game settings are: Circuit Detail - High Player Detail - Full Visual Lighting - High Shadows - High Other Veh Det - Full Image Quality - High Special FX - Med Mirrors - On Pitcrew anims - Low 16 vehicles visible. I know I could run this on my Ti4200 at 1024x768 16bit 2xAA 2xAniso and get reasonable framerates, so I was hoping I could do 4xAA with the 9700. With the above settings I get around 18-20fps in game, which I can increase by around 20FPS by setting the shadows to Med (which removes them and makes the cars look like they're floating - which I can't stand). I've tried 1280x1024 16bit with no AA, 4x Aniso and it seems OK (~30FPS in game with other cars around). Could someone with a similar rig post thier settings and FPS with a 9700 card? I paid serious money for this card so I could get 4xAA in every game and this is leaving me a little disappointed. I've read a few posts where it looks like I should be getting 50FPS - but at what settings? TIA! Kendt PS - I get 11,000+ 3dmark2001SE with no AA, default aniso, high mipmap and IQ settings.

The 3dconfig utility only changes the original settings for the f1 sim. The gtr mod can leach some of that, but I'd compare your gtr2002config.ini file with your newly updated config.ini file. here is a sample of mine. XP2100+ 9700 Pro 512 DDR 2700 GTR2002 all settings on full except pit crew. 1280 x 1024 x 32 with 2 x AA and 2 x Aniso Fraps results for a one lap trial full field at Mugello Highest fps = 94 Lowest = 37 Average = 56 with 3.4 Cats and XP Pro SP1 AD

Thanks - I'm going to test this in-game now, but with the same res, with 2xAA/2xAniso turned on (performance settings), and texture/mipmaps on Quality via the display control panel, I get 47.1 MTriangles/sec in 3DConfig. How many cars do you have set visible? I remember a post somewhere (may have been for F12k1) where someone got higher framerates by setting all cars visible. I wonder if the Omega 3.4's have a problem with F12k2... Thanks again! Kendt
Omega 3.4 work great on my system with GTR ~50 fps at 1280x1024 32 bit 2xaa 4x ansio all game settings set to max except broadcast overlays are off. This helps a great deal. I'm running a 2400+, a 9700Pro and 1 Gb ram (PC 3500), WindowsXP. A lap on Monza gave this: Max 91 fps Min 31 fps Ave 51 fps I used the settings you descriped in your post. I'm not sure on which resolution you did yours, so I tried 1280x960 (I hate 1280x1024 as this is off-scale!), 4x fsaa, 4x ani. I'm using Omega's 3,4. Oh, and btw I have Vsync OFF. If you are in for OC, then F12k2 really likes to get a higher FSB (and memorybus). It seems that this gives more performance than just OC your 9700Pro-card. I run with a FSB of 191Mhz (default is 133 Mhz) on a Nforce 2 chipset with a multiplier of 11. -- Mvh Sven

Argh! I'm not getting anywhere *near* that. Are you doing any OC'ing Aidee? My FSB is very mildly OC'd to 138Mhz, and the 9700 isn't at the moment. My memory is also running at CL2 specs. I've tried: -reinstalling DX 9.0a -reinstalling the Omegas, using the "non-hacked" driver. -using FRAPS instead of the in-game FPS counter. I changed to 1280x960 32bit, 2x/2x, Performance texture settings. In a 35car race at Mugello, I get FPS as low as the mid-20's at the start, maxing out in the 40's when I'm by myself. VSync is off both in the game settings and the control panel. Oh BTW - 3dconfig gives 43Mtris, I think I mis-typed the first #. Thanks! Kendt
Kendt.....something is amiss here... I just did same test with no AA and no Anis all other details the same. Max fps : 88 Min fps : 32 Average fps : 46 what the heck is going on..? LOL Im a bit foxed here mate. I put all Ati settings to Quality and that brought fps tumbling....and tbh didnt look good enough to warrant it. My only advice to you Kendt is not too worry,as from my experience logic means nothing in pc land. My old pc Athlon 1.33 @1.46,GF3 ti 500,512 DDR 2100 was faster in everyway ,(3dmark01se ,fps in games etc etc) than my brothers P4-1.6Ghz,GF4 ti4600,512 DDR 2100 and try as we did we never got to the bottom of it. If it helps i have an Asus A7V8X Gold now...with Bios settings to Turbo. Good luck AD p.s Run the Fraps report on your efforts its alot easier and obviously more accurate :)
FWIW, I'm running a P4 2.6, 512DDRAM, 9700Pro 1600x1200 32 bit, with everything on full in game, 22 car field and get @ 19FPS if i turn on AA. But with this high a screen res and 16xAniso on, the jaggies are hardly noticeable. Bill

This won't help your overall system speed, so keep searching for the sweet-spot, but make sure you start the race with both the HUD and your mirrors disabled. They are each worth almost 20% negative impact on your ingame fps. Wait for the pack to disperse some and then turn the mirrors back on.

That sounds quite normal for so many cars on a 2100+. With that many cars, the CPU is definitely the bottleneck. Try setting other vehicle detail to 'Low' - (This doesn't make close opponents look any worse - it just makes them look less detailed in the distance)
almost forgot my Barton 2800+ too :-) "Doug Hook" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:ruqCa.1071740$F1.125932@sccrnsc04... > Omega 3.4 work great on my system with GTR > ~50 fps at 1280x1024 32 bit 2xaa 4x ansio > all game settings set to max except broadcast overlays are off. This helpsa

"Aidee" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:<bbf4rt$sbd$[email hidden]>... > Kendt.....something is amiss here...[snip] No kidding ;)... Thanks to everyone for the all the advice. I decided to get down to it and do some serious tweaking last night. I found that by fiddling with my memory settings I could get another 200Mb/s out of my SiSoft Sandra mem bandwidth scores. I also went ahead and OC'd my 9700 a little. Despite the low framerates, GTR seemed quite playable, and I was getting up to a steady 100+ FPS on test days, so I know my PC isn't totally hosed. And GPL with the 9700- Mmmmmmm :). I'll check out some of the other GTR tweaks soon - I took my wheel off the desk at 2AM and decided to play a little GTA:VC to unwind ;). Kendt Oh BTW - anyone having stutter problems with GTA3 and the 9700, there is a fix! Use SmartGART to disable AGP (makes it act like a PCI card like the V5 did), and viola! No stutters! Too bad you have to reboot every time to use it.
