F1 2002 mods crash, then a debate over swearing

Ian Jarvis asked why installing the BPR mod made F1 2002 and all its mods crash to desktop; Dave Henrie suggested an incomplete install and said he ran several mods side by side. Most of the thread became an argument over whether the swearword in the subject line was offensive.

System AMD XP1700+ GF3 Ti200 512MB PC2700 ram Windows XP Pro Fresh install of F12002 always works fine. GTR & A147 mod works okay Then as soon as I try to install BPR mod, the whole lot ctds', even the original F12002 install in a separate file stops working...... Has an FAQ evolved over what common thinks spook the mods, eg nvidia driver versions etc. I've only just got a DSL connection, so I wanted to try F1RST and race online ( like VROC - GPL ), but the above nonsense is just p#ssing me off. Lets see now, where would GT2002,Alpha mod etc be without F12002 ? F1 2002 is a great game in its own right. Perhaps you are just biased against F1.

Most likely something didn't get completed in the BPR install. The good news is most likely it can be fixed. Worse case scenario would be just re- install everything. I've got a half dozen mods including BPR working sucessfully out of the same F1 2k2 folders. Verify that the track folder has tracks, and that the drivers files are in the drivers folder and that the vehicles folder is populated with BPR cars. Why the other programs are messing up, is perplexing. Check that the config.ini and gtr2002config.ini files are in the f1 2002 folder. (ditto for the bprconfig file..) Don't panic it just may take some time to square it away. FIRST works with about 5 or 6 different mods, not just BPR, it supports the Alfa mod, GTR, BMWM3, the F1 95 mod and probably more since last I checked. There have been some reports recently that FIRST is causing conflicts with the mods. Your post indicates you haven't tried FIRST yet, but if you have, that might be the source of the troubles. check out the various mod forums at racesimcentral and simbin. dave henrie
I reckon F12002 is well worth playing. I am a big GPL - vroc fan and the only thing that F12002 couldn't offer me was an online racing facility because I was stuck with 56k modems. I did want to build up a whole collection of mods , carsets , tracks & setups but it all seems very fragile like a house of cards. You build up a few mods and then you add something that then brings the whole thing tumbling down. If I could at least get a 2003 F1 season update running on F1RST using my 500kbs adsl line , I would be quite happy. "redTed" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bblpl3$apfc5$[email hidden]...

What kind of logic is that!?! Saying a word is making the action of saying the word. So the action of stealing something can be compared to the action of moving your mouth/lungs etc to say a word, or moving your hands to write it...

Ok, how about this. They are just words. How they affect your sensitivity is something you have to come to terms with. If someone steals your tv or car, or physically abuses you, that has a more real affect on your life. Well, it certainly would my life. If you choose to allow words to upset you, that shouldn't mean that everyone has to not use those words anymore when you are in their company. If they choose not to use those words then that is 'their' choice, for whatever reasons 'they' decide. -- Peter Ives (AKA Pete Ivington) Remove ALL_STRESS before replying via email If you know what's good for you, don't listen to me :) GPLRank Joystick -50.63 Wheel -21.77

That's entirely true. To be honest I don't understand how people can get so upset over the use of swearwords. So many people use them that they've lost all meaning, except to little 15 year olds who think they're cool.

Certain things are socially acceptable or unacceptable based on agreed upon standards. Just like we agree to not walk around naked. Some people are brought up with those standards so firmly ingrained that they are uncomfortable hearing curse words uttered in public loud enough for others to hear. Bill

I made the original comment and after reading all this nonsense i feel i need to quantify a little. You will never agree on a standard nor find a standard,we all have our own standards and mine is obviously lower(or higher) than average. I did put the word please at the end of my original post as i wasn't demanding anything i was just making the poster aware. What he/she does after that is their business. End AD

So if I said "you're fucked bigtime dude" that would mean you'd actually be grabbed by some sixteen-odd sailors that very moment, and given the old treatment up the backside? Encouraging logic *there* ;) Regards, Rudy
