Guys, I am struggling with Monaco in the Ferrari, using Alison's setup. I'm fast enough 'round all the track, except when I exit the last right hander, and enter the tunnel. From here, the car that I've been right on the tail of accelerates away into the tunnel in a way that I simply can't match. I have to hold back through the tunnel as I don't have the grip, then as I go over the bump, the car becomes so unsettled that I don't make it through the chicane, unless I lift right off just before the bump. While I'm struggling with this section the cars in front have disappeared into the distance. Is there some kind of bug, it the setup no good, or am I just useless? I hope it's not the latter, as I'm competitive everywhere else, it's just this one section that I seem to have to walk through, while all the CC cars are running! :-( What's going on? Thanks. R.

The AI cars don't drive with the same physics as you or the same setup. They also go faster as you go faster. You don't say what lap times you're doing. I lap ok at monaco (ferrari pb is a 1.28.5) but I have to lift through the tunnel a bit. Make sure you've got the car dead straight on the track when you take the bump so that when you land the car is nice and stable for you to drive it through the chicane. Also, don't forget that monaco is a hard track. It's hard to overtake. If the cars do get away from you out of the tunnel, you usually catch them back up again at the last turn. If you haven't got one, get a GPLrank http://gplrank.schuerkamp.de/php-pub/gplrank.php It's a great way of seeing if you're getting faster. Kev

If you get the tunnel entry absolutely right, you can just about keep your foot down all the way through in the Cooper (Coventry), and any F2 car (or F3 I guess ;-)). In the Ferrari and (ime) all the other F1 cars you will need to lift, but if you lift a little earlier you can tuck the nose in, take a late apex just as you come out of the tunnel and drift over to the left kerb. From there, quickly get back over to the right and point the car directly at the chicane as you go over the rise. This takes alot of practice, because you have to point the car at something you can't yet see ;-) Just before you go through the chicane, straighten the car out & if you get it right you will drift sideways, but pointing straight on, and easily miss the haybales on the left after the chicane. The tricky part is that you have to point the RF wheel at the haybale jutting out from the right, and rely on your speed to 'push' the car away from it. Using this technique you should be able to keep your foot down solid all the way from just after you enter the tunnel to braking for Tabac, and with practice it's relatively easy to do lap after lap. As far as setting up your car is concerned, there's more than one way to do it at Monaco I find, but I have the ride height & bump stops minimal and stiffen the shocks. This will give you a little more control at the expense of grip, but ultimately I find it easier to drive than a grippier setup. Malc.
Richard, You just described my Monaco lap as well. Sorry; can't help; but I'm eagerly awaiting replies. Jim Richard S Beckett wrote:

Thanks, Malc. Very clear description. Now, let's see how long it takes to be able to execute it! Malc wrote:

Thanks Malc, I'll give it a try. Can I send you the bill for all the Ferrari parts? :-D I did discover something, though last night... If I turn FF off, I can get it right every time! ;-) PS. What's going on with the news...I only saw malc's (excellent) answer when someone else quoted it in their reply (lucky they did, really)? Thanks ;-) In OE, while viewing this newsgroup, go to the tools menu and select 'get next 300 headers' if you think you may be missing posts. ime, I have to do this with all non-UK hosted newsgroups occasionally, I guess you may find the same thing with your country too. As far as the FF is concerned, there is one hell of a bump right in the middle of the chicane so it's not surprising that it throws you off, just try increasing the max_steering_torque value in your core.ini to give gentler forces, or do what I do & take a white knuckle ride ;-) Malc.

Either that, or I spin trying to keep it OFF the wall. :-( Eldred -- Help find missing child: Tatianna Ashley Chillcutt from Michigan(info on my homepage) Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.
