RASF1 test server and car claims in F1 Challenge

EldredP hosted an F1 Challenge 99-02 test server for a proposed RAS F1 league. Testers found the netcode decent but noted pauses, a speed bug, a server crash and EXE mismatch warnings caused by different no-CD patches. Members then began claiming specific cars and drivers.

"Refresh Type" (nice and cryptic when they actually mean Refresh Source) must be set to internet instead of LAN. Okay... not up to Papy standard, but not bad. I was on cable so I experienced some warping, but, again, not too bad. Two things: 1) the pauses when someone joines are really annoying in the Maggots/Becketts complex. 2) We need to arrange a pw for future tests... there's guys out there that can run 5 secs quicker than any of us!! Jan./off to bed. =---

Connection wasnt bad at all. Some warping but better than any EA racing game Ive ever played before. It sure isnt Papy netcode to be sure :) One guy was turning 1.09's at Silverstone. Is cheating widespread for F1C? Thanks Eldred Mitch "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Testing F1 challenge - Silverstone, 2002 > No password - server is up now. That's the "speedbug" it's easy to spot, the cars pass you like you're standing still. You can't easily tell you've got it though except for the lap times. A rejoin normally cures it. The connection seemed pretty good, but the server crashed about 20 mins into practice 2. I vote we use F1rst2 for RASF1 (if we ever do it), it's easier to setup the session options than gamespy IMHO. -- Ian P <email invalid due to spammers>

Ding, ding! Yeah, I have to use the no-cd patch on the server, or else I can't race from home. Does it affect the scoring, or just show annoying messages? It just shows annoying messages. However it does open up the possibility of cheating. F1C checks that the important files are the same on each client as the server, any differences will be announced to all players. The manual stopped making sense to me after "system requirements" so I gave up on it. I just picked Jaguar as that's what I'd set up when joining the test (I play the '99 season offline) and assumed I'd have a performance disadvantage. Seeing as you're even more of a modern F1 guy than me, I also gigured for one of the "lesser" cars. If we can run all the same then that's great... no problem (other than I don't know how to set that up offline to practise <g>). Jan. =---
