I know it's only Tuesday, but I just did 20 quick laps at Chicagoland and I hate the setup. Feels evil loose, especially early on. Futzed with the linerity to get the car off of its tippytoes and ran a best lap so far of 30.195 and I feel confident I can run laps below 30...which, of course, will be beaten like a big bass drum by just about everyone. :)) Even with laps on the car, I had to feather the throttle all the way from start to finish of the turns. oh well...I guess I will just have to practice...practice....practice.... I found it was way looser online than offline. I hate the setup too. Oh and take a look at your tires... LOL. I have not ran this track in N2003 yet, but I remember the entrance to T3 being real tricky... always wanted to swap ends. After a lot of practice I finally figured out the entrance to T3 and it wasn't so bad after that. Brian Oster

I was afraid that was going to be the case. That's about par with some of the current fast setups at many tracks... If I remember right, North Carolina was truly evil loose as well. -Larry "Race1530" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > I know it's only Tuesday, but I just did 20 quick laps at Chicagoland andI > hate the setup. I also noticed the fast setup being very loose. Looks like a bad track for me to make my debut. I'll just hang around the back and try to make some laps. bluestringer

LOL. The weird thing about this track is that the back straight is curved kinda like the front stretch and there is a big dip or something going into T3 that can really mess you up. Brian Oster

And in the worst cases, when I lift and the car twitches, just a quck blip of the gas will give it forward bite. I'm down in the mid 29.xxx now...but still not comfortable at all in traffic. The first few laps are gonna be ugly, I think. And what makes it sillier, is I have had the benefit of driving around that track at 165+ mph. Also was driven around by Scott Sharp...you'd think it would help. Jesus I'm gonna look like an idiot. Maybe I will just hang at the back with you and watch the fireworks from a better vantage point :))) Mike

Now that I've done some Laps at Chicagoland I have to say... Loose? Are you running the FAST setup? The thing is good for about 3 laps before it starts pushing like a dump-truck! If you are loose going in, you are either letting up off the gas way too much, or you are hard on the brakes. Otherwise, getting loose going in is pretty hard to do and all but impossible coming out unless you are wagging your tail. Tim would absolutely HATE the tire wear :) I've gotten down into the 29.7's, but the tires go away so fast that I can't get better than that right now, and trying to run a race that fast will send you to the back in no time. I see a lot of mangled right-front fenders in this one :) -Larry "bluestringer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:mfmPa.1474$[email hidden]... > > "Race1530" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:[email hidden]... > > I know it's only Tuesday, but I just did 20 quick laps at Chicagolandand > I > > hate the setup. LOL! I KNEW you were going to say that Tim :) This time, I whole-heartedly agree. It's a dump truck. Larry "Tim" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:SnqPa.194021$[email hidden]...

It is a bit in the early laps and even later on if one insists on right foot braking. The whole key to this setup is to never really let go of the throttle, to always apply the brake while having a little constant throttle on and to have the brake on before one let's go of the throttle. It's also obligatory to use the brake to check up instead of backing out of the throttle. After some 300+ laps (practise + 100% race against the AI, I'm pretty much used to it. After a few laps it is really good coming off the corners and it stays that way unless one, like myself, enjoys driving the car out of turn 4 sideways (I'll do it properly in the race... was just getting the sliding out of my system <g>). It'll "go away" pretty quickly doing that.

Really gotta be cool in the opening laps of a stint and then you can be good to go for a tank full, which is about 65 laps? (haven't checked yet). 29's are right out if you want to run that kind of distance, though. Jan. =---
I think you guys are overdriving the setup. I'm only doing mid 30's, but I have no push and no problems. After the tires warm up, I think it's a great setup. I've never had a tire wear problem here. -- Richard "ZZ" Busch Member: Screamers Racing League OAO CORS RASCAR GPL Rank + 17.415 MoGPL Rank + 318.586 N2002 Rank + 7.695 http://www.ZZBusch.com ---------------- Busch Motorsports: Remember racecar is racecar spelled backward ----------------- Busch Carpentry: A good carpenter can nail anything -----------------
The key is not going too fast early on. By not hot lapping the first 3 or 4 laps you will see a huge difference in tire wear patterns and longevity.
