RASF1 test race and fuel mileage differences

EldredP ran a RASF1 test race in F1 Challenge 99-02 with about nine drivers and asked how to shorten practice and remove the server car from the grid. Spudster found the McLaren could make one fewer stop, prompting garage tests of each team's tank sizes and fuel estimates and a warning that high fuel multipliers on short races could distort strategy.

Give me about 5 minutes to set it up. Look for RASF1, no password. I want to test out a second server... Eldred -- Help find missing child: Tatianna Ashley Chillcutt from Michigan(info on my homepage) Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.

Two things that neew answers. 1. how can you set a shorter practice time automatically? 2. how do you get the effing server car off the grid?!? I can't believe it doesn't 'time out'... BTW, PedX - I got tired of losing 3-7 seconds per lap to the next slowest car. After my 3rd or 4th spin in the last complex, I got fed up and quit. Thanks for running that Eldred... we had a good race. Found out something interesting about the McLaren is that it gets better fuel mileage than the others. With the settings we used: 7X fuel usage and 30% (18lap) distance, I was able to pit only once where the others had to pit twice. We should try to set up our races to eliminate that advantage. So much of an advantage that I spun 3 times and still won. Spudster. "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Give me about 5 minutes to set it up. It seemed to be going really well for me at least. When you did disconnect, the server car did get off the grid btw. The only problem I had was massive understeer out of all but 3 turns that cost me at least 4 seconds a lap. Are we going to continue racing at Silverstone so I can get an actual setup here? :-P -Stuart Becktelll "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > Give me about 5 minutes to set it up. We may have a solution for that, though. PedX came up with a great idea that I'll test tonight. Boohoo, that's no good! :-) If there are some cars that have better fuel mileage (as we have seen the McLaren definately does), then running such a high multiplier of fuel use, coupled with short distances, is going to severely disadvantage the cars that don't get such good fuel mileage.
[email hidden] (EldredP) wrote in news:[email hidden]: > Those settings were chosen based on testing in the Screamers league. > Interesting that there should be such a difference between cars, > though... Here's what we found, with the race settings of the other night. The McLaren full was 140L, giving 9 laps. The Williams full was 150L, giving 8 laps. The race was 18 laps, so the McLaren only needed 1 stop whereas the Williams needed 2. I don't have the figures for the BAR or Jag, perhaps Stuart and Elrikk can comment on that?

It's not perfect for me, but it made me quicker. You can get his setups at http://www.gpx.it/

I tested all the car settings in the garage: Car fuel(liters) laps Ferrari 140 8 McLaren 140 8 Williams 150 8 Sauber 145 8 Jordan 145 8 BAR 135 8 Renault 135 8 Jaguar 145 8 Arrows 135 8 Minardi 135 7 Toyota 135 8 So, the only car that can't make it 8 laps on a full tank is the Minardi. I checked the McLaren both online and offline, and got 8 laps each time. OK, I'm thoroughly confused... I tried a test session at 7X fuel usage and couldn't even get a full 7 laps out of the McLaren this time, while I got 9 laps during our race. We did use 7X fuel didn't we? > So, the only car that can't make it 8 laps on a full tank is the Minardi.I > checked the McLaren both online and offline, and got 8 laps each time. > > Eldred > -- > Help find missing child: Tatianna Ashley Chillcutt from Michigan(info onmy > homepage) > Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett > > Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.

Now, my test was based on the readout in the garage screen. I didn't take the cars on the track. That would be very driver specific. Example, I didn't know that in GPL, some drivers/cars can't finish a full GP without running out of fuel. That was never an issue for me - I always had PLENTY of fuel left after a full GP. So, I would guess that you're just easier on the car(which sucks, because you're so fast<g>). What chance for us Eldred? LOL, he's the fastest of the bunch so far, yet he still manages to conserve fuel enough so that he only has to stop once. I guess I could try to conserve as well, but then watch the lap times rocket (in the wrong direction). hehe

Now that's strange. I can only get 135L of fuel max into the Toyota... Isn't that what I listed for Toyota? The cars don't all have the same size tanks... Eldred -- Help find missing child: Tatianna Ashley Chillcutt from Michigan(info on my homepage) Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.

I did my initial runs with 8L of fuel, which is just enough to show a 2 for the lap estimate. No problems, car started sputtering a little midway through the first sector of my in lap. Shortened the gears a tad and did another test. Fuel estimate did not change. However, this time the engine started sputtering just after I exited the final turn leading onto the front stretch. As best as I can tell the lap estimate is a static figure, but the actual amount of fuel used varies depending on engine speed (as it should). Jason
I think the lap estimate is based on the fuel use number in the track's .aiw file. "Jason Moyer" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...
