netkar and dx8.1

netKar requires DirectX 9

A poster asked whether netKar could run on DirectX 8.1, having avoided DirectX 9 because of reported problems. Ashley McConnell said it was built with the DirectX 9 SDK, and most reported no issues or even small speed gains after upgrading, though one saw a slight F1C frame-rate drop. The original poster installed it without trouble.

Is there any way to force netkar99 to work with dx 8.1? Complaints here about dx9 convinced me not to install it, but so many demos refuse to run without it... Thanks for any ideas. My system: winXP, ATI Radeon 9700 video card, Audio Audigy sound card, Pentium 4. Sean

Install Dx9, i have it on both my machines with no probs Ash http://www.siroccoracing.com
Use dx9 it works fine with all games and with either win98 or winxp dan "Four furry fiends" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bf5sf6$ac0$[email hidden]...

Be warned! DX9 is some of the most dangerous software known to man! Install it at your peril. Anyone who even considers installing it should be considered a real dare-devil. j/k ;-)

No offense but anyone who has probs with direct x prolly needs to take a basic computer course...i know about 20 ppl with dx9 and no-one has had a prob except one dude who had never used a pc before dan "Damien Smith" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:u0vRa.406$[email hidden]... > Be warned! From my limited problems with customers i can say that nothing will ever surprise me. The installation of DirectX8.0 whilst doing a defrag whilst doing a Spybot search whilst playing mp3's on WMP springs to mind. The Norton Utilities man who thought it best to run its routine once an hour "..just in case.." The woman who was burning a cd when her scheduled maintenance started and it locked her pc solid, including no response whatsoever to the on off button. She was in too much of a flap to think of disconnecting from the wall. And this weeks,in fact last nights is the lady who had a cd drive fitted when i made up the machine, two days later she rings saying her dvd's dont work in it.At her stern request we swap the cd drive for a dvd drive. Last night she rings saying where can she buy the dvd equivalents of all her cd's as she 'obviously' cant use them now. Laugh...?....I cried. :) AD

Classic! My best one when doing tech support work was a financial analyst who worked on a city trading floor. He phones me up to say that a report he gets each morning sent to the printer by his desk wasn't there. I resend the report to his printer. He phones up to say it still isn't there. I go up to see him, look at the printer and see that it is turned off. I switch it on, the report prints and I hand it to him. What did you do he asked. I turned it on I said through gritted teeth. Why was it turned off he asks. I don't know I reply. How do I know if it is turned on he asks. Look at the lights I reply. Find out who turned it off he tells me - he sits in an openplan dealing room with about 200 people in it! Andrew.

The point is still valid..many ppl refuse to install dx9 through stupidity..just cause u tried to make a joke doesnt change this. I got the impression from the NG that dx9 caused a significant slowdown in framerate for many people... Does it? Games/sims that I'm playing: F1 2k2 and several of it's mods, GPL, LFS, Half-Life, Quake 1-3, NOLF 1 and 2, Unreal, UT. Hi Sean I had an increase of about 10% in my sim when I moved from directx 8 SDK to dx9. I am not sure if it was coincidence (although I benchmarked my sim just before and after), just my experience. Note this was on a DX8 game (i.e. not optimised to use dx9 features). I play GPL / F1 Champ / netKar / LFS / HL (counterstrike) + UT on occasion and have had no probs with dx9 (on both of my PCs - Racing + Development (and FPS)) There are always risks when installing any software, and you may need to fiddle a little with driver updates etc, but I think on the whole its worth it. Also, for the sheer good racing I had the other night with netKar online, I think its worth it for netKar alone. I will be moving Sirocco to dx9 pretty soon too. Good luck! :) All the best, Ash
it gives me a framerate speed up in most games even old dx7 games dan "Four furry fiends" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:bf64lk$n18$[email hidden]...

Do I regret the upgrade? Naw... netkar is worth it! -Brian

Nah... I see zero difference between XP and 98se using the "same" DX and driver versions. Have you upgraded your video card drivers lately? -I was seeing framerate fluctuations with DX9 and the 30.xx drivers I was using, but recently (early June) Creative came out with 44.xx drivers for the GF3 Ti200 and that brought the fps back to previous levels. > xp1800 o/c to 2000 levels > GF3 ti200 o/c mildly > 256 meg (another possible reason?) > > Do I regret the upgrade? Weird, when I searched for "directx 9" (or was it "9.0a") I could only find the web download. maybe it was because I was searching in the downloads section only...
