It only took them a year and a half but the SSM guys have finally
completed their Le Mans 24hr 2k2 mod. It will be released with 5 versions
of the Le Mans track and include track files to enable almost 60 other
tracks. All 50 cars from the 2k2 even can be run at once, although there
is a big problem with how F1 2k2 handles the pits. If you plan on runing
longer races, you probably will be better off limiting the size of the pack
to only 36 cars. F1 2k2 doesn't know how to control the extra teams
pitting and you end up with cars driving through the pits over and over
again. But if you limit the field size to 36 cars, there seems to be no
problem. Le Mans prototypes, GTS cars, GT cars...all are included. The
planned release date is this Friday, July 25th...only about 8 months
late.....!@!!!
The mirrors and download sites will be announced most likely on the SSM
Le Mans 24hr 2002 forum at racesimcentral.

Wouldn't it make more sense...at this late date...to do this for F1C?

That is already underway. They will do all the cars from 1999 to 2003
which is something like 148 cars. The two biggest problems holding up the
mod were unfinished physics...XzibitA had a very short attention span, and
getting the cars to behave in the pits. F1 Challenge will make the pit
issue go away from what I hear, so with that version you WILL be able to
run long races with a full 50 car field.
I expect the F1 C stuff to be put out in small carsets rather than a big
huge release. Some fresh carpainters and modeler's have joined SSM so they
are already well into the F1C work.

I agree we need the mods for FIC at this point.
