Saving in f1c

I believe not - its a fault hung over from F12002. Although at least if you do a championship the game saves your progress by recording whatever session you were up to. A bit of a pain though not having a save facility during a single race game. Im sure many people would love to be able to take the current grand prix circuit and play the sessions in the correct order and on the correct days relevant to the actual race weekend to follow the progress of the actual race on TV. Its frustrating that you cant do this. Nats -- Nigel 'Nats' Stutt [email hidden] "Its life, Jim, but not as we know it." Yep. I can understand why its good not to have a save game. In F1C and GPL, it really gives you a sense of fear that you wouldn't have otherwise. You have to think twice about every overtaking move... You clench when your car steps out of line... You have to "win at the slowest possible speed" to ensure you don't make a blithering error... However, in the "real" world, its very frustrating to lose all your hard work because the flatmate barges in to scrounge a cigarette, or you have a CTD, the phone rings, etc, and you have to start all over again. Of course, some people would "abuse" a savegame feature, to save every lap and reload if they spin, but so what if they do? What possible harm can it cause to society? Please EA/ISI, give us a save game patch! We won't use it to cheat! Please!!!! (And while you're about it, how about a completely new system of storing results, run-down of fastest laps, etc, that we can browse through during the season...? The current system is a bit weak, typical console-type presentation)

Well I cant understand that argument personally. I come in from work to play a game and I want to enjoy it. I dont want to go through a whole race weekend in a matter of hours or stay up all night trying to get through it. It just doesnt make sense. Im not bothered too much about saving in the race itself - I am bothered about the fact that there is no way to save what session you have completed in a single race weekend. As for the race it doesnt really matter becuase you can always restart the race. So if the start goes wrong all you need to do is press the Y key or whatever it is. But as I just simply dont have the time to go through an entire race weekend in one night, I end up just doing the races on their own and not bothering with qualifying etc. Ruins the entire flavour a bit though. I mean how difficult can it be to implement a save feature in the single races? Its just something that has got lost along the way when they were thinking what to add to this incarnation to make it better than the last. But somehow also updating the lame wet weather track graphics got lost as well. Personally Im not the slightest bit interested in trying races from different years in the past (other than Hockenheim) so IMO the majority of the work that went into F1C was completely wasted. I would have rather they stuck with the present years racing and remedied the annoying omissions. But the problem is they obviously didnt get that all important license this year did they? So they had to think of something different. Lets just hope that somewhere a patch perhaps is released or an update. But lets face it Im not holding my breath. Theyve added a few interesting things into this game that definitely makes it more enjoyable - like not having to end your race if you lose a wing. But all in all it does seem a bit of a rip off considering the extras and what I paid for it. Its starting to remind me of the FIFA games series. I cant see me paying the full price for the game next year thats for sure - unless theyve at least remedied all the annoying points. Well, there isn't going to be one next year, since EA no longer hold the FIA licence; Sony now holds it. EA released 99-02 because they hold the rights to those years. ISI made the game as openly customisable as possible so the community can play around with it and create whatever racing series' they fancy. Wait six months, after a few really good mods have been released by the community, see all the different racing series' you can play with (ETC, CART, etc, etc, etc), and then tell me you think its a waste of money! I agree that they should have got all the basic things right, like being able to leave the game after qualifying and coming back to it (the list, frankly, is endless) but personally, I love trying the different cars; the '99 tyres have pitiful levels of grip, and I like the challenge. The game structure, as you say, is pathetically like other "pick-up-and-play" console-type games such as FIFA2003, which is a shame. But we're nit-picking. No game is going to be perfect. Was GPL? Its a great game, a joy to drive. Forgive them, and just enjoy what you have until someone comes up with something better.

If you want a save game feature in an F1 sim then your only choice is GP4.
I couldnt get into GP4 - no life to it like F1C has. Plus old tracks and cars, cartoonish graphics, lack of user control in the pits, and no decent forcefeedback support all go to make it rather lame for me. I have played F12002 and F1C far more than any of Crammonds GP games and after all the bugs in GP4 Ill never be buying one of his games again. -- Nigel 'Nats' Stutt [email hidden] "Its life, Jim, but not as we know it." Thats fair enough, we're all aware of the faults in the game but its still rather good driving wise. Just a shame a couple of small things that could have been easily resolved werent. By the way the 'official' Sony game looks right rubbish. F1 shouldnt be proud of themselves giving them the license. Anyway why cant several firms own a license to develop games? Whats the big deal? Sony obviously develop arcade games so why not let EA or someone else develop a good simulation? Nats -- Nigel 'Nats' Stutt [email hidden] "Its life, Jim, but not as we know it." I don't understand this. F1C has a very similar save game feature to GPL. I can only speak for championship mode, but if you complete a session, then exit, when you re-enter you're at the start of the next session. If you exit mid session, that session re-starts. i.e. Once you've completed the qualifying session, you have to go onto pre-race warm up. The only thing is, like GPL, once you've started a race, you can only pause or re-start it. If you exit the session, the race completes without you. R. Im of course referring to the fact you cant save a single race weekend. Im well aware you can save a championship session but thats not the point. I want to race a weekend in Hockenheim this weekend to represent the actual grand prix just to compare the two and I cant because I cant save the game. I have to do the whole race weekend in F1C in one sitting. -- Nigel 'Nats' Stutt [email hidden] "Its life, Jim, but not as we know it." "The whole race weekend"? I still don't understand. If you haven't got a decent setup, then you'll need to work on this first. If you run out of time to play, then you can save your setup, then come back to it, and modify it later. Which practice session you run doesn't really matter, does it? Once you've done your setup, then you will need to sit down, qualify and race. Qualifying doesn't take long, and you can speed up time with <Ctrl>T, so you only need a few more minutes than the race would take. *confused* R. How did you find out about Cntrl T to speed up things - its not documented anywhere is it? Anyway I am not too concerned about not being able to save the game its just an annoyance. It would be really nice to practice, qualify and then race on corresponding days to the proper Grand Prix. The main concern is the time it takes to qualify and then race though which can take quite a while - a good nights work in fact to do it properly. I would love to be able to save after qualifying and then race the next night for example. But these things obviously werent meant to be. Its also a shame you cant configure the championship as well for example choose the races, order and go into a championship in the middle somewhere. For example Iwouldnt mind starting a championship in Hockenheim and follow the grand prix from there. Although i suppose I could just fast forward through all the early races! -- Nigel 'Nats' Stutt [email hidden] "Its life, Jim, but not as we know it." There is a file you can edit in F1 2k2 that allows you to alter the championship order, tracks etc. I assume F1 C has the same file. I think it is called career.gdb. Might not show up until you create a Championship... dave henrie
