netKar needs DirectX 9
EldredP hit a missing DLL error starting netKar and was told it required DirectX 9. Most reported no problems with DirectX 9, and some saw controller calibration improvements, with a link to the full 9.0b redistributable. Disk imaging with Norton Ghost was recommended as insurance.

Make that "definitely yes". It's been often repeated that Netkar was developed

everyone who had already installed it seemed to report no problems at all with
it, I finally downloaded and installed it, in order to finally get a good look
at Netkar - and I don't regret it.

Yep, Netkar requires DirectX 9.

I haven't seen any reported problems with DX9a. There are a couple of
issues with DX9b though, so I am keeping away from that update, at
least until the full scope of the problems are revealed.

It actually improved one aspect of my system. In the Window Gaming Options
area, when checking calibration of the wheel and pedals, whenever I would
turn the steering wheel to the left the crosshair would drop to the bottom
of the calibration window as if I were applying the brake at the same time,
which I wasn't. Never could correct this and just accepted it as a quirk as
it was never a problem when in a game. DX9 has finally cured/corrected
this, also there is now generally much less jigglying of the crosshair in
general when checking calibration.

Well, I'm 2 seconds per lap off the aliens in GPL and F1C so nothing
changes......

Hmm - mine does that too. Not as bad as yours, but noticible. Maybe that's
causing me some problems in games, and I just don't realize it? If I feel
lucky, maybe I'll try to upgrade this week.

FWIW, I recently used Ghost 2003 to image onto a partition on my 160G. The
partition is 75G or so. I did not try imaging to the full size though so I
can't comment on that.
> On a 120GB drive?
Sure......
Create 2 partitions, a 10GB one where you install Windows + all your Windows
application software. The second partition has all the other stuff like
games, music, videos, patches, documents etc. Do a ghost backup of the 10GB
'system' partition onto an image file on the second partition before
installing any major windows software. Simple and very powerful.
