Colin McRae DiRT release and the state of RAS
Plowboy noticed Codemasters' DiRT had been released with no discussion on RAS. Replies dismissed Codemasters as non-sim makers and warned of Starforce, while recommending Live for Speed and the upcoming ISI-based ARCA Sim Racing, which Pat Dotson predicted would be the best stock car sim yet.

It's a bit late but there are still a few playing Toca Race Driver 3.
The offline part of Race Driver 2 had bit of a story line to it, but RD3
is better. However, the career mode, and time trials are all done in
arcade mode, as opposed to what the game calls "Pro Sim" mode. Also some
of the cars are awful in "Pro Sim" mode.

I think anyone that dismisses it because of 'fantasy cars' or 'fantasy

Son't worry, you aren't missing much. I have the MS Racing Wheel (which is
freakin' awesome with Forza 2, btw). It doesn't improve the Dirt experience.
Those CORR off road buggie/truck things are fun, but everything else is a
turd. Bummer too, cause i was really looking forward to having two good
racing titles for the 360. Forza 2 rocks! If only it had some real racing
series in it.

There are a few people who claim to have no problems and a lot of
people who are having serious problems. Looks like it needs a couple
of more patches before it will be fully playable. BTW, from what I
read, the first patch was actually released before the game was even
on the store shelves. Also, the recommended hardware requirements are
really the minimum requirements and the minimum requirements are
really a joke.
Starforce rears its ugly head again too. Reports are that you can
trick the game into starting without an active internet connection but
if you do your save games end up corrupted.
Or you use the NoDVD patch. :-)

I don't know about other posters, but I indeed stopped caring after TOCA2
and CMR2, which is about 6 or 7 games ago.
Codemasters don't make racing simulations, end of story.

One thing I leanrt about Starforce. Don't isntall it from CDRW or DVRW
drives. If you install it from a plain jane cheap cd or DVD drive it
should not give you any issues. I suspect Starforce of destroying two
of my recordable drives. Both developed the exact same issue not long
after installing a game with Starforce. Could be coincidence but I
don't think so and I can't prove it one or another though.

Good, haven't delved into the demo much yet but will play it some more

In article <[email hidden]>,
[email hidden] says...
Say again? The AI is virtually useless at this point. They were AI
programmed back in the S1 days and they know not how to utilize the
advances since S2.
You could try to let them learn a track and passing if they could pit
and refuel, but they cannot do that. Plus they don't know tire
temperatures and shred tires. Those are the two biggies that I can think
of at the moment.
The developer has said that AI is next on the list of things to work on.

OK, but I don't see why you need two RW drives. RW drives are known to
be problematic with copy protection schemes beyond just Starforce.
It's better to have one RW drive and one plain DVD drive. It's your

Afterwards the software will delete that image file on the HDD if you
