I'm sorry, but I'm sick of RASCAR

39 posts by 22 people · 25 Aug 2003 23:39 UTC - 28 Aug 2003 17:30 UTC

Readers complain RASCAR feud is flooding the newsgroup

A reader complained that RASCAR posts dominated the newsgroup, and others suggested using newsreader filters. Ken MacKay and Schooner argued RASCAR should behave like any other league and keep its disputes on its own forum, while defenders noted it had been founded on RAS. Joachim Trensz asked Jan Verschueren to post his race reports here once the madness ended.

Man, I am so sick of every other post being RASCAR. Can you guys not get your own news group?

You can easily filter out this situation in your Outlook Express (that's the news reader you use) by filtering the word "RASCAR". Pretty much 99% of the RASCAR-related posts have it either in the thread or the message itself. That's easy thinking here. Standard response, when there's nothing to say in defense. Myself, I don't mind the RASCAR stuff. I just don't read them. At least the headers are consistent, and if you want you can block those messages. But all this nonsense bickering and the profanity is almost too much. Everyone likes a good fight, but enough is enough. In the end, if you don't want to see the RASCAR posts, just block them. It's that simple. Alanb

But I understand that some matters are discussed here. Let's hope they keep all their personal messages about who has not updated their car file an such in the forum. I'm quite sure Usenet was not meant for messages like that but for messages of public interest. On the other hand this NG has some slack which I think is a good thing. You can post off topic and get good help, not just all the "wrong newsgroup!" replies you get at other places, from kids who don't post unless they can pick on someone. Jone. Jone.

I personally am finding the posts quite informative. I have been playing FPS games online for years, but have yet to play any race games online. I am new to playing sims and am learning how to play NR2003 offline so I don't make a nuisance of myself when I do start online, and through reading the RASCAR posts I learn about what is the proper etiquette, and what I will want to look for when looking for a league to race in. If I didn't want to read it, I would just ignore the offending threads. Usenet is rapidly going downhill with all the Outhouse Express users who expect everything to fit in with the restrictions in their software. Andrew.
Just don't open the header. It's really very simple.....my cat can even follow the instructions. (And it doesn't read English, either.) Bruce. Ok i to think this rascar shit is out of hand. Yes this news group may be because of rascrap but please your bitching like a bunch of old ladies. Allow me to simplify this for you. Have a secure site designed (passworded) could even charge for membership to support the cause then set up tcp/ip servers. A few for each mod if need be. then each different server can set shit up they way they want, as far as driving aids, hardcore whatever and clearly post that by the severs info on the site. then any member can pick and choose according to skill level, mod, ping and what ever other variations are available In this vast world a few can not control the many so offer more options. seems simple enough to me. Myself and 73 others do this now we have several servers going and we can pick the race we want to go into by the info provided by that server on the site so I know this course of action does and will continue to work. Just an idea that will be coming to the web soon The Nascar Racing 2003 TCP\IP Portal We have anywhere from 3 to 23 different ip's and their info (rules/mods) posted at any given time. Trans-Am, Patched Papy and BGN So all you RASCRAP racers stay tuned for the NEW, THE RIGHT, THE FAIR way to race. And not Hitler type racing commandos governing any race unless you choose that type of race. IT WORKS AND HAS FOR ALMOST A YEAR NOW. so as rascar kills itself keep in mind that at this very moment The Nascar Racing 2003 TCP\IP Portal has 4 races running right now and no one is fighting or crying or whinning like girlies over rules and whos in control. Don't like what ya see start and add your own server and play by your rules. RULES ARE GOOD , DICK-TATORS ARE NOT! Again a simple solution to very ugly mees ya'll have here. Wondered when someone was going to clue into something like this. If you want to race with people on RAS then create a league and invite them. Simple. The server owner or designated admin controls the server and sets the rules. If RAS regulars don't like what that particular admin is doing they won't join. Sure, post reminders of the races and recruitment information if you like to RAS to keep people here informed, but use your own forum for the flame wars, entertaining as they are. Other leagues recruit here, just because RASCAR only recruits here doesn't make it that special. Otherwise I don't see how RASCAR is different than any another league. Face it, RASCAR is never going to be the wonderful open racing utopia some of you envision. The personalities and skill levels in here won't allow that and everyone has their own idea of what it should be. If there aren't enough people in here that share the same vision as an admin then the league will die a natural death. From what has been going on in here lately its very apparent different groups want different things in a league. Well imagine that!, people in here not getting along on the track, hell some of you aren't very civil to each other in here let alone behind the wheel! So find a server, set the rules, and invite people from RAS if you want. If it's good it'll work but don't be alarmed if not everyone wants to join. Thanks for the rant. Ken [email hidden]. wrote:

Well, not THAT exactly ... The problem unique to RASCAR is that it was founded on r.a.s. So anytime someone feels the private website (which RASCAR did have) doesn't give them the satisfaction they need, they can, an do, come here to vent it being a public forum. Kinda like the drunk who gets kicked out of his favorite bar once too often, promptly pisses off every other bar on the street with his whining, then just stands out in the middle of the street yelling at traffic. Something like that :) -- Tim White "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:gRN2b.62409$[email hidden]... > Exactly, excellent post. > > "Ken MacKay" <[email hidden]> wrote in message > news:[email hidden]... > > Wondered when someone was going to clue into something like this. Hmm, you mean RAS's bar. Again your statement seems to point out the major issue I've read on here, ownership of RASCAR. No difference to me really, just seems strange what sets this league apart from the rest. Other leagues have as many RAS members I'm willing to bet as RASCAR yet this is not their public forum is all. "Tim" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:UrP2b.20407$[email hidden]...

> No difference to me really, just seems strange what sets this league apart > from the rest. Other leagues have as many RAS members I'm willing to bet as > RASCAR yet this is not their public forum is all. Errrmmm..but that's what is (part of) the problem. RASCAR was founded here by R.A.S. readers who decided to go race. Nothing wrong with that. I didn't want to join them, but I could have. Nothing wrong with that. Now, however, some people cry "foul" and say RASCAR isn't for everyone and they need to get off this newsgroup. Ummm...it IS from this newsgroup. So? Creat an "anti-RASCAR" rule in your newsreader, and you'll see them no more. I didn't see anyone say that other leagues can't advertise here either. Reminds me of the people who buy a house near the airport then complain 'cause the darn planes keep flying overhead... sigh - advertising a league is one thing, ongoing rants and multiple daily threads is another. Yes I can filter it, just like I can buy a security system and live in a bad neighbourhood. It would just be nice if they gave the same courtesy as other leagues do is all. It may be called RASCAR but beyond the name what sets it apart from any other league? Lots of sim people read RAS without being part of RASCAR. I just don't get the need for this to be the main forums for it is all. If every other league used it like this it would be an utter mess. What's different about RASCAR? To me it's a place to race on Saturday, sort of like the pickup hockey games that take place on the local rink every Sunday morning. It is (or was anyway) informal, no points and few written rules. You would generally know most of the participants and the most important things were to have fun and get some excercize. The only real requirement was the ability to respect your fellow racers/ players. If you couldn't skate/ drive or you acted like a jerk you would hopefully get the message in a friendly way and either work on it or phase out. Noone would do anything but help someone who is making a solid effort to improve. Whether this is or still will be true for Rascar remains to be seen. At least it's still like that at the local rink Spark > It may be called RASCAR but beyond the name what > sets it apart from any other league?

If that were the case then I can see it being a part of RAS, a place to do a pickup race with names you know but that is/wasn't the case. It basically became invite only with rules around car file names and then evolved into a league with penalties and thus why I don't see it part of RAS. It became a community series for select members, or at least that is how I seen it as an outsider. Yes, MOST sim racers probably do, but RASCAR would be a small portion of those that do. Again the ads for RASCAR are fine, all leagues do that here, its when every second post is RASCAR that it becomes a bit much is all. No it wasn't: the lack of paragraphs was disgraceful, making the entire treatise a chore to wade through. No pass-mark from this examiner, I'm afraid. Bruce. "Schooner" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:gRN2b.62409$[email hidden]... > Exactly, excellent post.
I applaud you for your effort Mitch, but it is not going to happen. Already there are rules that exclude some members of RAS. It's almost impossible to find a time that is convenient for everyone and the issue of yellows alone will divide most. No single league is going to make the members of RAS happy. If it's done right you will get enough people interested and have a good league. But you are deluding yourself if you think one league will make all of RAS happy, people want different things in a league. So go create what you think will be a fun league, a place to go race on Saturday with people you know. Let RAS know about it and I'm sure there will be enough here that will enjoy it. As Spark said, some will like it and stay, others will adapt or move on. But don't be upset if it doesn't fit everyone here as that is never going to happen and is the real flaw in the RASCAR concept. Ken Mitch_A wrote:

I consider RASCAR more like a "test ground" for discussions on r.a.s. Some people consider it that way, doing constructive criticism and so of pseudo-racing situations. Yeah, sometimes it turns ugly. If there's a race, green flag, checkered flag, and friends all about who gives a rats patootie about the rest. Apparently some do, or there wouldn't be 100's of posts bickering about it. ;-) But agree with the sentiment, just wish the organizers would stop thinking they are catering to all of RAS when they do it and need all of RAS to agree with every decision. That's the end of my contribution to the bandwidth on this subject. Time to switch the RASCAR filter back on. Good luck. Ken

Yet another vision of what it is. Certainly it is a breeding ground for discussions. ;-) Constructive discussion of racing events is fine, I actually quite enjoyed the race reviews/reports before things got out of hand. But it is a bit arrogant to think that a single league is going to represent and fill the needs of all of RAS. I'm sure RAS could support multiple leagues catering to different group's needs in here. If John wants to create a league and invite RAS, great. If Mitch wants something different and creates another, fine. At the very least there could be one for people who want yellows and one for no yellows. If there was a poll right now I wonder what percentage of RAS would never like to see "RASCAR" mentioned in here again. How about it Mitch, care ask RAS that question to see if the majority even want it to be mentioned in here? It would be a good test to see if you are willing let us (RAS) decide what it wants. After all, it is *OUR* league isn't it. If RAS wanted to see RASCAR out of here (except for the occasional ad or announcement as with other leagues) and in it's own separate forum would you do that? Just use R**CAR in the poll so all those filtering "RASCAR" it get to see it and respond. Ken
Yes, I enjoyed Jan's reports a lot. I wish he'd post them here, as they are enlightening, well written, and simply informative. Achim "Ken MacKay" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... ... > ...I actually quite enjoyed the > race reviews/reports...
