What happened to your old video card drivers and software? Was it COMPLETELY
uninstalled before you put this new one in? or is it now??
At least go into msconfig (run... msconfig) and under Startup see if
anything relating to your old videocard happens to be running in the
background.. make sure drivers are uninstalled for it, etc, etc.
The same thing happened to me when I switched videocards once. CMR2 would
run perfectly smooth, but EXACTLY every 10 seconds there was a solid 1
second pause in gameplay and in movie playback. Turned out I had the
original SIS drivers and software loaded up! uninstalled it and it fixed...
If I get new hardware that's of importance (like a vid card) I usually use
it as an excuse to format the harddrive, clean out the gunk and do a nice
clean install of XP.. and hit all the updates, etc.. get new versions of my
software, etc.

I threw in RT for the first time in a while. Since last I have put in a new
vid card. I have the Radeon 9000 with 128m ram. I figured I could use
1024x768 32bit reolution....gave me stutters. tried same screen size with
16bit....still stuttered....turned down a couple of things.....I thought I
should be able to max out the graphics in vehicle world and
whtanot.....well....everything still nets me a stutter. It starting
happening in GTA3 as well. I run end it all first and it seems to make no
difference. any ideas ??
Verne
p.s. I haven't tried all my games yet.....afraid to find them all
stuttering. BTW, this card is about 6mths old now.....it seems to have just
started it. Could it be the new drivers....not the BRAND new, but catalyst
3.6 I believe is the version. JUst updated these mid week.

Okay.........I did not delete the old drivers before the new install. I did
try deleting the new ones and then reinstalling them after your suggestion.
Made no difference at all. Is there a utility to delete the ATI drivers
entirely?? Is there any way to take ALL the ATI drivers out so I can start
fresh with the 3.7 drivers? BTW........I didn't mention my specs
before.....Athlon XP 1.5g, 512m mem, Win98. I don't recall having any
stuttering with RT before. I never really played it much, but I seem to
recall it being smooth. GTR runs smooth pretty much all but the effects maed
out......just seems odd it would be that RT doesn't run better than GTR.

TBH your computer spec is low, including a low cheap Ati card.
Your hopes of running RT on full res were pie in the sky with that rig.

Hmm.. something is trying to access the harddrive maybe?
Check to see that if every time it stutters, the harddrive light comes on...
If so, check to see what other programs are running.. and kill off all the
unnecessary ones. (there's articles that tell ya how to do that)

Okay......more detail here. It is not all the time.......it is intermittent.
It will be smooth as glass for a bit, then split second freeze frame...then
fine for a few secs...then stutter.......then smooth for a bit again. It is
