I would like to propose a schedule for the remaining RASF1 races, since many
of us like to plan our weekends well in advance. There are only three races
remaining in the 2003 season, but we have talked about running the races
from earlier in the season on off weekends, plus I'm sure most of you feel
as I do that we should throw Spa in there somewhere also. Can't remember
which one you guys started on, so I ran the schedule out to include the
British GP just in case. Here it is:
RASF1 Proposed Schedule
=====================
9/14/03 Monza
9/21/03 Malaysia
9/28/03 US
10/05/03 Brazil
10/12/03 Japan
10/19/03 San Marino
10/26/03 Spain
11/02/03 Austria
11/09/03 Monaco
11/16/03 Canada
11/23/03 Europe
11/30/03 France
12/07/03 Britain
12/14/03 Belgium
=====================
Comments anyone? If we can agree on the schedule we should get it posted on
the web site. Let me know what you think.

Tried to post this earlier but it doesn't appear to have gone through.

Bah! My stupid newsreader is attaching this to a previous thread with the
same name. Stupid OE. No wonder I didn't see it before.

If we can agree on the schedule we should get it postedI would prefer not to. I tried a few and didn't really care for them that
much. Plus then we would have to get into a discussion about which carset
to use and which 2003 physics patch to use. Next thing you know we will be
making rules and banning people and we will all have to paint our own cars.
(Okay cheap shot but I happen to think you-know-who has a sense of humor.)
I really don't want to deal with all of that stuff, I just want to race.
:o)

Decided to give Monza a go last night, and I have a setup that enabled
1:25's with a few 1:24's. The problem is the damn rear end wants to come
around under braking, especially at the second chicane. The sensitive
braking touch required to prevent it just doesn't seem realistic at all.
Anyone have any clever ideas how to help get rid of that?

instead of 2, or try decreasing your 2nd gear ratio. Does it come around
while you are braking or when you come off the brakes? If the latter, you
might want to decrease the rear slow bump damping a tad. If you are using
soft rear springs the rear end moves a lot under braking and brake release,
so the rear damping becomes very touchy. In fact, while this seems
counter-intuitive, you might actually find a slightly stiffer rear spring to
help in this case, by allowing you to keep the rear end a little lower.

Are you breaking loose right before
turning in to the first part of the second chicane? I think there is a
surface discontinuity there that is just plain going to ruin your day if you
turn in on top of it (there's a whole lot of surface discontinuities at this
track). Every time I tried to turn in at what appeared to be the logical
point I spun. Braking and turning in a bit earlier seemed to fix the
problem. Unfortunately I am a couple seconds shy of your lap times so I
don't know if you can do this and still get a decent time.
If that doesn't work try moving the brake bias forward some more. I ended
up a couple points higher here than I do at other tracks.

couldn't get anywhere. I added a-bit of rear wing to help me get thru.
Also there is a setting that has been mentioned here about the plr file
that increases the tire sampling. That made a difference for me when
driving over that 2nd chicane on the left side curbing.
in the [Driving aids] section look for this line:
Tire Sampling="1" // 0 = normal, 1 = extra HAT samples (*slightly* more
accurate over sharp curbs, otherwise a waste of CPU)
thanks to DGF and others who pointed these changes out to us.

Here you go:
http://members.tripod.com/pedx1ng/rasf1/index.html
I'm not sure how many are showing up, but some of the cars have two drivers.
I haven't made any races yet, maybe tomorrow if I get time.

Spudster and I both drive
the same car and when we raced at Australia last week we simply agreed on a
different pit strategy in chat before the race. Unfortunately Spudster
didn't survive long enough to pit and my <cough> strategy got interrupted by
some repairs, but I don't think there would have been any problem. It's
good that everybody picked different cars initially so that we have some
variety, but I don't think it's a problem - if you didn't get on the roster,
just pick a car and show up anyway. For the last two races we have only had
6 entrants, it's not like we don't have enough room.

Thanks for the help. I honestly don't know what the h*ll is going on with
this track/setup. Yes, the main section of the track where the rear comes
around is under braking right before turning into the second chicane.
I apparently have lost the setup that enabled me to do the occasional 1:24,
and regular 1:25's. Too much late night tweaking. I must of switched
something and didn't save the setup properly. I'm off the pace now, and the
thing that baffles me is I was actually running 1:25's with little practice
with that mystery setup. It's ALL in the setup with this track apparently.
Even when it felt good though, and I was doing those times, it still seemed
ridiculously easy to lose the rear end. Did even one driver loop it in the
real Monza race today at any of the chicanes?
One thing I've always disliked about sims is the way you have to drive the
cars as if the are made of balsa wood. Nothing realistic about that.
