IndyCar Series - anyone playing it?

Early impressions of Codemasters' IndyCar Series

MichaelJP was impressed by the newly released IndyCar Series on PC, apart from the driver's arms. Andre Warringa found the steering bad with his Momo, and Eldred could not get his TSW wheel recognised in the demo, prompting complaints about poor calibration routines. Others noted the controller setup matched Rally Trophy, Bruce Kennewell later liked the retail version, and an IRL-based mod for F1 Challenge was suggested as an alternative.

Just got this on the PC, quite impressed so far after a quick race at Phoenix and Nazareth. Terrible driver arms though - can you switch them off?! Physics seems pretty good, maybe the suspension movement is a bit exaggerated, but to my mind that's acceptable for a computer simulation. Doesn't seem as though many people are playing it though? Hope I don't have to do my own setups, haven't really got the patience to be a race engineer. Anyway, I found ICS worth the money and quite a nice diversion from my near-obsession with trying to complete a shift-R free lap of the Isle of Man:) One day... - Michael

Give me a day or two after the sim comes out and I'll post complete setups (in ascii, should require 2 lines per track) that will own the AI everywhere. Or the money you paid for this post back. One question: Does it support multiple simultaneous controllers, like the EA and Papy sims? If so, I'll probably try it. MichaelJP wrote:

It recognises my Gravis Analogue Pro joystick perfectly, Eldred. :) Bruce. "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > I tried the demo, and could NOT get it to recognize my TSW wheel andpedals > correctly.

Well, I got it to work with RT, albeit with a bit of difficulty. Thanks, Jason. jason moyer wrote:

I was lucky enough to be involved in running a computer games shop at the time these went out of production. When the shop closed down (1998) we still had several in stock. I was able to snaffle two of them :) Bruce. "EldredP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... > > Wow - those still EXIST?!? I thought that was a GREAT joystick. Yes, I agree. I wasn't overly infatuated with the demo but today I bought the retail release and have tried it at two circuits - Indy (of course!) and Phoenix. I must admit to being quite pleased with it after being somewhat hesitant about outlaying AUS$90-00 for the package. Except for the lack of mirrors it scrubs up pretty nicely and is quite fun, with just the right amount of "physics" to offer a realism level that is challenging without being totally over-the-top. ICS really does bring back memories of what Papyrus' Indycar Racing used to be like, and that's no bad thing at all. Now - if we can just get Codemasters to give us rear-view mirrors............. :) Bruce. Have they fixed the problems with the AI not being able to exit or enter the pits without driving straight through the other cars? This happens at every oval I've either personally converted to F1C or downloaded from the ORL/XRL/etc sites. Jason

I haven't messed with it enough to even know. However, I do know the original tracks uploaded with the XRL mod for 2k2 had aiw done by CJ, whose pretty good at that editing. I'll ask him what's up with it... dave henrie

I haven't tried it since my initial install That was before I had to rebuild my system. I loaded DX9 with F1c, I think. The initial disgust of the Indycar game meant it wasn't even on my radar anymore. So I'd have to find that big-ass demo file to download again... :-( Eldred -- Homepage - http://www.umich.edu/~epickett Member Screamers Racing League IICC League GPLRank -2.4 MoGPL rank +302.38 ChallengeRank +54.48 MoC +743.77 Hist. +82.82 MoH in progress N2k3 rank:in progress Remove SPAM-OFF to reply.
