Eldred shares classic racing videos online
Eldred posted links to classic racing videos including Goodwood 2003, a 1951 European legends programme and Spa 1958. The downloads failed under demand, which he blamed on Microsoft's IIS FTP server. Others suggested BitTorrent, Apache or Linux, and Uwe Schuerkamp offered to help set up a Linux server.

It just says, 'Server busy' for me. I wonder if maybe someone can setup
some bittorrents for these.....

Hehe....good ol' Apache all the way....
Seriously, is anyone that's got these files prepared to set up a Bit
Torrent? The fact that the server doesn't seem to resume means it'll be
nearly impossible to download these files and I'm sure there's a lot of us
that want them.

I really doubt that it's a bandwith issue. I've run multiple races at one time
before, as well as offering GP race replay downloads. There's just something
screwy with IIS. Lemme see if I can try something remotely.

Cool, thanks. Even on cable a 127 mb download is rather hefty though ;)

Rudy, SHUSH!<g>
I don't have a Mac strong enough to run OSX. And, I don't use a Mac at
work(where the servers are).

Not the fault of microsoft.. just something that should be on an html server
like apache of even the IIS server instead of an anon FTP.

I said it was MS's fault because that's the application that keeps crashing.
How would it work being on an HTML server - wouldn't that still be FTP? I
guess I simply don't understand what you mean. I know *nothing* about Apache,
despite the efforts of Uwe to to assimilate me...<g>

Depends on the ftp server, tho you can surely configure the allowed
number of simultaneous anonymous connections. In any case, I'm not
sure using a file transfer protocol to transfer files is a bad
alternative to a protocol designed for transmitting hypertext. =p
Jason
I'm just suggestion the whole html server thing because I know several
people that serve large files to a lot of people by using Apache. I also
know a lot of people that do successfully use Bulletproof FTP to distribute
a lot of big files too.. But only to a small amount of people, 1 at a time.
Either way, the videos are great.. mcuh appreciated.

Don't worry Eldred, my machine is officially unsupported to run OS X as
well, but it runs just fine thanks to a free program called XPostFacto.
(You'd just need to pick up an old $ 50 Mac and a G3 cpu-card ;)
Just imagine, no more virus scares ;)

Hey! Watch it! This newsgroup is being archived ;-) Right now if you
plan to do web publishing I'd try to push you into using Zope (which
also happens to have a full blown ftp-server should you need it).
My offer stands: we can do the basic config of a spare PC over
TeamSpeak and tehn do the network stuff as we go along.
All the best,

TeamSpeak? Never heard of it, although I assume it's like Roger Rilco?

Well although OS X runs on old(er) hardware that doesn't quite include
machines which could go right into my computer antiques collection ;)
It's got to be a PCI Mac, I'm afraid. A G3 card, well, I once picked
up one for about $ 10, but in the US something like $ 30 - $ 90 would
probably be more common, depending on the model.
(Although it runs fine, it's got only one big drawback: no GPL... 8(
That's why i had to buy this Repentium machine <sigh> otherwise I
wouldn't go near these things.. Well, maybe if they ran Linux or
NeXTStep. Which reminds me, if you can get an old copy of THAT for the
pc, you actually have the precursor of MacOS X.)

Yep, it's similar to RW, but also has a Linux *client* (GASP!) and
much better audio quality than either RW or Paltalk.
