I think you miss my point John, I said MGPRS2, with no mention of NFS PU, Viper racing, DTR etc. I was just using GPL as an example. I think that Jo Helson, who made his comments on this thread, should keep in mind that I DON'T EVEN OWN GPL. If I were thinking that nothing will ever compare to GPL, then I might want to go out and buy it. So what the hell exactly is that that your talking about John when you make these references to these other games? And I'm also Interested in Jo's comments about comparing me to a racist. If no offense were intended, then perhaps you shouldn't have said those words? These were Jo Helson's words in case anyone missed them the first time around (un-edited profanities included) "Maybe the comparison is a little bit over the top, but Kai's message reminded me an awful lot of the "I'm not a racist but I don't like ***s"-quote. If only they would paint them _white_ (absolutely no offence intended)" So lets recap, I don't own GPL, so I'm obviously not one of those people who think GPL is the end all. (I welcome flames for not owning GPL :)) Secondly, I don't think I'm the only one who thinks MGPRS2 doesn't do as good of a job as GPL in the physics model. If I offended anyone is a MGPRS2 devotee, I OWN MGPRS2.... Hmmm... well I suppose this should teach me, from now on to post on r.a.s. and leave the group for a couple days. I appreciate everyone's more civilized replied, including ymenard's which proves ALL French Canadians can't be bad spellers... :)

Maybe I did mis-interpret what you were saying, but in spirit, I disagree with the basic title of your post ("r.a.s. ISN'T GPL centric"), mainly because I feel that this group tends to be VERY GPL- centric a lot of the time. > So what the hell exactly is that that your talking about John whenyou make > these references to these other games? I brought of those other sims to illustrate that many other sims do many of the things that GPL does, and they do them very well; I didn't realize that you were merely comparing GPL to MGPRS2 in that instance. Since you had mentioned so many other sims in your original post, I thought that you were alluding to the fact that NO sim did what you described as well as GPL, when in fact, you were simply saying that MGPRS2 did not do these things well. My apologies for the misinterpretation on that point. I am a big fan of the sims I mentioned, by the way, and I think they all fall into the GPL end of the spectrum, but how many posts have we seen around here lately about NFSPU or DTR? (BOTH NFSPU and DTR are very fine SIMULATORS in their own right, so it saddens me that they don't receive more attention here -- I KNOW I'm not the only one enjoying them, but I have to go to other forums to hear talk about them -- is it because this place IS somewhat GPL-centric, perhaps?) > And I'm also Interested in Jo's comments about comparing me to aracist. If only they would paintthem > _white_ (absolutely no offence intended)" I don't believe he was comparing YOU to a racist, but, rather, the COMMENT about r.a.s. not being GPL-centric. The comment Jo was talking about is pretty much a racist joke in and of itself -- the humor in the phrase comes when the speaker denies that they are a racist while using racist language to deny the fact, thus actually confirming that they are indeed racist. I don't believe that Jo was inferring that you are a racist, but, rather, he was humorously noting that your statement and supporting commentary ("r.a.s. is NOT GPL centric . . .") carried much the same tone. I caught his drift, but I do see how you could have interpreted his intentions differently. I did not want to start any sub-thread about racism, so I opted not to comment on his phrasing, but I hope this clears things up for you and others who may have mis- interpreted his intentions (and I pray that I interpreted his intentions correctly). > So lets recap, I don't own GPL, so I'm obviously not one of thosepeople who > think GPL is the end all. Well, at the risk of sounding too GPL-centric myself, you really should consider picking up a copy -- it IS a classic, and it will be for years to come. <G> > Hmmm... well I suppose this should teach me, from now on to post onr.a.s. > and leave the group for a couple days. I apologize if I offended -- your comments caught me on a bad day, and I really have been feeling that r.a.s. IS a bit too GPL- and Papy-oriented, especially when there are SO many other GREAT sims out there. This may turn out to be the "golden era" of racing/driving sims, in fact, and I'd hate to see many of the other current greats to be overlooked simply because we can't tear ourselves away from GPL long enough to see all the other great things going on around us. > <[email hidden]> wrote in messagenews:8hfcbc$auv$[email hidden]...

I don't think either GWB or Gore would like trhat being said about them, an neither would I. I really have been feeling that r.a.s.
