One Word - WOW!
F1 2000 graphics and Direct3D versus Glide arguments
Praise for F1 2000 turned into an argument about Direct3D versus 3dfx Glide and whether 3dfx was still competitive, with Zonky and rrevved trading barbs. Others compared racing game graphics, citing Rally Championship, Superbike 2000 and GP500, and criticised F1 2000's framerate and pixellated shadows.
Automated summary.
maybe if it wasnt d3d.. Bring on the glide, or even openGL for that matter.
>One Word - WOW!
Arguing against D3D these days is a waste of time. Microsoft has won yet
again and we need to live with it. The only place you'll find OpenGL these
days is FPS, and I can live without those for the most part.
Microsoft... making the place a better place for someone. Although I've yet
to find that person. I love their hardware, hate their software and curse
them for hours on end while doing my job (software developer).

It's all up to the individual.

Do you have a 3dfx video card?
If so, then it's very likely you would know that in nearly all cases
a Glide title runs and looks better than it's D3D counterpart.

RC2000 has the best graphics yet in a racing sim and it's d3d only, so I
don't understand how people can continue to say d3d is poor and MS is bad
for "forcing" it upon is.

The best graphics in a racing sim are of EASports Superbike 2000
by Milestone. Extremely photorealistic...!

My 3dfx is cutting edge, Mr. Zonky at My Pants.

I prefer the graphics in GP500. It may not have the same photorealism,
but SBK 2000 pulls it off badly, it doesn't really need to.

Yep, they are excellent. The other sim with great graphics is GP500 as SS
mentioned.

All too true. It still don't change the fact that the graphics SUCK.
Pixellated shadows? I won't even comment about the non-sensation of
speed.
It's a shame, too, the track maps look great- elevation, etc. The
perspective is much better, you actually feel like you're inside the
car.
A car that goes the same speed regardless of the speed-number on the
wheel.

Driving fast laps on twisty circuits like Australia,
Monaco and Brazil really give me a sense of speed and makes me dizzy
:)
The feeling of speed is much better than in Viper for example.
But the feeling of speed in GPL is better, if you compare it to that.

How can 2 sims (Superbike 2000 and F12000) from the same company EA
sports be so completely different graphically (don't answer that it's
just a figure of speech .... different developers). Superbike 2000 is
superb graphically, looks like live TV coverage without any great
slowdown. F12000 absolutely crawls in race mode. Also I don't know what
it is but the cars seem to be out of proportion. They seem to have a very
wide track and not much height. Plus they don't look as if they roll
along the track they seem to just slide along the road without any gap
between the road and the car. Hard to explain this but it just doesn't
look right.
Superbike 2000 stays on the Hard drive. F12000 has got to go.

Sounds interesting. Does Superbike 2000 have multiplayer internet
support ?

Before you buy.
It's a spelling error.
