What colour is British Racing Green. Does it have som einternational colour number. I want to use it as a background behind some pictures - but I want the exact right colour. Can anyone help me????? I live in Denmark if that matters. BR Thomas Soerensen GPL Enthusiast of Denmark Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Now thats a tricky question. The original BRG was an emerald green, worn for the first time by the British entered Napier team in the 1903 Gordon Bennett race. But I suspect you mean the later darker colours. In the mid 50's Jaguar pioneered the very very dark green, which looked almost black, because it was assumed green was an unlucky colour for a racing car! The Lotus green type shades came in later. There are roughly speaking eigh*** shades of BRG as used on competition cars from 1903 up to the mid 70's, and not including the Bentley greens or privateer variations. Here are a few colour codes for BRG based on the Ault and Wiborg range Lotus 1971 AW37490 Austin Morris BRG67-70 HMN254 AW24400 Austin Morris BRG (Rich)59-69 HMN254 AW28461 Austin Morris Dark BRG 63-71 GN29 AW24499 Jaguar BRG 53-65 AW16712 Aston Martin BRG AW34735 British Standards Institute BS381C Mid Brunswick Green 226 AWCode 13707 " " " " Deep Brunswick Green 227 AW 13718 If I could read your mind I think it may be one of the Austin Morris colours you need, which roughly match the early Lotus 49 type colour, HMN254 rings a bell, but you would have to check. Good hunting Steve ;-)

British Racing Green is one of the most over-used and abused terms in relation to racing and road cars alike. These days everyone calls any dark green on an English car BRG. I have a Triumph TR6 that was advertised as being BRG, but in actual fact is a more "Emerald" or "Conifer Green". Have a look at the jpeg titled "Triumph Colours - BRG" I have posted in alt.binaries.simulators.autos. The colours are very hard to discern on the screen, but the different names give some clues to the variations used by British car manufacturers in the 50's, 60's and early 70's. I prefer to think of BRG as the colour used on the Jaguar 'C' and 'D' types, which was a very dark blackish green. IMHO that is the most striking and impressive colour, nothing like the current day "TV friendly" green used on the new F1 Jags. Sorry, no simple answer. Gidday, Glenn [email hidden] wrote:

Hmm yeah well, think if it's a fairly dark green then you will always get people saying it's BRG. The F1 jags arent what i consider BRG but it's an improvement on the original colour when they launched the car (british racing yuk :-b ). you are of course right to use "i prefer to think of..." since i imagine most peoples perceptions differ from each other. thing is motoring enthusiasts tend to know, so anyone that claims their car is BRG in front of one when it's blatantly not risks ridicule. i agree that BRG is more black than green until the sun shines on it. the above post may or may not make sense, it's just my ramblilng chain of thought on the matter :-) dave Glenn Andressen <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Thankx for the help guys. I went to a store that is supposed to have everything for hobby painters and amateur artists and so on - and guess what - they had no clue to what colour BRG is - they never even heard of it. I want a piece of paper or card about 100 cms on each side as a background for the trackprints from "GPL Replay Analyser" - it seems a bit difficult to get that though. My search will continue!!!! I would say the BRM's in GPL are "painted" a damn close representation of BRG [email hidden] wrote in message <8ajfc4$8ss$[email hidden]>...
