<A fairly straightforward promotion of a website> Didn't we just see this announced recently? I didn't see any mention of new content - just a plug. There are a lot of racing-related websites out there; I really don't want plugging a website to become accepted practice. Mention your website if you are announcing something new, or in response to enquiries. Or put a plug in your .signature. But don't just post an ad for the sake of self-promotion.

Why not? He's doing it for the sake of auto racing simulation and it has to do with auto racing simulation. That what this site is for is it not? He's not making money out of it is he? It's more in context with rec.autos.simulators then half the ***I see people "arguing" about on here (like me right now hehe). Al Stiff

I have no problem with it. This looks to be an enthusiast looking to add something to online racing, and that's definitely germane to this group. Looks to be all Nascar3 at this point.

I see problems myself like that he didn't return my email request for information. This makes me wonder if he even lurks here on any of these groups (notice the major crosspost). I do agree such info belongs in the sig of a regular poster not as an adverti***t. I had to email him cause the website locks up on me and I can't submit the registration even with my IE4.0. And, my "doesn't like cookies and other strange things" netscape 3.0 keeps shutting down the site because the web site is "trying to get information from another domain", hmm no cookies huh? Hi,... First thing i want to say is that I'm just a guy looking for some good online racing,... Im the webmaster to the site, and If i didn't reply to your email then I apologize, (Ive been extremely busy with the site, its around 2 weeks old, and without registering it yet i have almost 1000 hits in a week, thats a lot for a brand new personal page)... I am not into this for any money... (the cjb.net URL is a free URL director..) I am simply in for meeting online drivers and setting up online races.... This post added another 6 members to my site, so there is my justification for posting.... I thank those who have joined up, and I guarantee you are in for some great online racing. As for your browser locking up, I dont have an answer for you. I have had emails from people using Netscape, IE4, and I have had members come on board from AOL, so obviously the page works just fine. As for geting info from another domain, like I said, the URL is a free redirector, so that may be why your getting the 'info from another domain' message,..... The few banners that are on the page are either in return for the use of a free forum, or because of banner exchanges to promote my site,... I have only posted to NGs that I am a member of (The folks in RASC will attest to that) and although I do not post frequently in others, I do indeed keep an eye on all of these NG's. And there are people on non-sim NGs that are interested in sim racing, and the most obvious place for these people to be is on racing sites (RASC, RASN, RASF1...) The Major Crosspost is because I am trying to reach as many people as possible. All of these NGs are very busy, (especailly, RASN, and RASF1) and the posts go down the list very quickly. Thats the reason for me posting often. I am promoting my website, nothing more. If you do not wish to join The Racing Line, thats fine, however my posts are of just as much validity as any others. However if you do want to join and have a good time racing online, then by all means check us out... To all those who have joined The Racing Line, I thank you. Our membership is very strong and we are racing several times a week now. We are growing daily and having a really great time, and thats all the Racing Line is about... With that said, check the site and i'll let you be the judge,... [link lost in import] We'll see you at the track,... (P.S., email me directly if you like, I just tried replying to you from this NG, but it returned the email as an invalid email address
>I have no problem with it. This looks to be an enthusiast looking to >add something to online racing, and that's definitely germane to this >group. Looks to be all Nascar3 at this point. You seem to have missed my point. It wasn't that he posted the mesdsage once - it was the fact that he repeated basically the same post, with no new information, a little bit later. You dodn't see me complain after his first post, did you? If everybody who had a racing-related site posted a plug for it on a weekly basis these newsgroups would deteriorate into nothing but a list of ads. Post an announcement when the site is first created, by all means. Post messages if significant new content is added to the site. But don't post just because you haven't advertised this week.
>>:)Hi,... First thing i want to say is that I'm just a guy looking for some >>:)good online racing,... >This ng is for the discussion of CART racing..... Spider is obviously posting from rec.autos.sport.cart This thread is going to rec.autos.simulators as well as four newsgroups in the rec.autos.sport hierarchy. Online racing is rather more relevant in the simulators newsgroup

First off, Im a long time subscriber to the above groups, and I have a few friends in all of them, and I want to continue that... So I apologize to those people who are getting sick of this subject,.. (like me....) Okay, this is the LAST im going to post on this thread,.... SPAM and ADS generally involve MONEY, advertising a product for a price,.. my RACING WEBSITE is free, and i am NOT making any money from it,.. ZERO.... I am ONLY looking for online racers..... thats IT, no money, NONE.... Do you get it?? its a PERSONAL SITE. What if it was CART, F1 or NASCAR photos i had?... Would you be complaining then? We race CPR (a CART game), N3 (a NASCAR game) GPL (an F1 game...) and several others. are you making the connection? Im looking for online racers for these series. And if someone plays a SIM online its very possible that they also subscribe to the corresponding NG. All of these posts have been relative, and they have helped people who are NOT on the RAsim NG to find a place to race online,.... If you dislike this post so much, then simply ignore it..... I have posted threads to these groups about 3 times in the last few days... That may be a lot of posts, but its not like I am forcing you to read them.... Do you see me complaining about Spider's post in RASC where he is going on about his experience in Usenet and his old PCs even though they have ZERO racing content?.. no. My thread has more racing context than that, but I don't care becuase it has little relevance to me. I have been trying to contact people who are into racing Online, and who DO NOT subscribe to RAsim. The best places to post? probably Racing NGs, and the ones i have posted too are ones I regularily post to... I honestly think some people are being really over-sensitive to a few harmless posts. They are NOT SPAM. I cant believe that there are way more posts criticizing the threads than there are of my actual posts!!! If you dont want to read it then DON'T!..... ..... To be honest, there have been EXTREMELY few people upset about his thread across 4 NGs, (3 people, of thousands) I think the very vocal minority is once again stirring the pot just because they feel they should,... For those of you who have come to the site, i thank you. Thats it, I won't reply to any more posts in this thread. i think its time it died....
>First off, Im a long time subscriber to the above groups, and I have a few >friends in all of them, and I want to continue that... Well, if you've been here a long time, you'll know that you're not the first person to be taken to task for posting gratuitous web-site promotions in the newsgroup. The apology would be a little more believable if it really was an apology. But it isn't, is it? It just a pitiful attempt at self-justification. Yes. That's why we compained when the planet-indy guy kept plugging his site. If you're such a long-time participant, you'll remember that. (As Russell said - I wonder what happened to him?) The typical excuse of the off-topic poster. Why don't you simply follow the accepted guidelines? Another typical whine - "I'm not the only one doing this" It still doesn't make it acceptable for you to post. Yes. And posting once didn't get you any complaints, did it? It was repeating the self-same post, a few days later with *no new content*. Got that? It really shouldn't be hard to understand. Yes they are. Off-topic, self-serving, repeated, and overly cross-posted. It doesn't have to be commercial to be unwanted and unacceptable. Many of the participants here contribute to websites (mostly personal, non-commercial special-interest sites) that are far more relevant to these newsgroups than your little pet project. But you don't see them, filling up the newsgroup with weekly plugs for their websites, do you? You might see a website mentioned in a .signature, or when some significant additions have been made to the website content. All we want is for you to exercise the same kind of restraint. I wouldn't have thought that was too much to ask, but apparently you're not interested in behaving with consideration for others.

Uh-oh--here comes the NG police again. Get a grip man. If you don't like it. Simply ignore it. There are plenty of us here, moreso in fact, that have interest in it, or do not care. I repeat, if you do not like it, ignore it. -- Scott aka Outshynd The driver formerly know as Outshined "33" in N3 27 in NL
